Re: A low-power, budget consensus?
The Intel G31 motherboards use an older South Bridge ICH7 chipset that does not have gigabyte LAN... Mine does. I recently re-built my existing s939 desktop box using a G31 and Intel e7300 and it is far quieter (cooler?) at idle and load than my 78GPM and AMD 4850e HTPC (both using stock cooling, s...

I have an HTPC with 780GPM motherboard and 4850 processor which I was happy with but a little concerned with fan speed/noise (~1400rpm @ idle) despite smart fan enabled. I recently built a desktop with an G31M and e7300 Intel CPU and it sits at a quiet 850rpm. I'm therefore seriously considering an ...

Now, on to things I would like to see in SPCR's article. A comparison of hardware to find what gives you the most bang for the buck while balancing energy efficiency and speed. I used an old computer for my WHS build and now have a closet that doubles as a Sauna. In searching for motherboards, I ha...

Im assuming its PCI-E 2.0, Meaning that an x8 slot is the equivilant to an x16 slot, And if you go to the product page they list all the graphics cards it is compatiable with, which is a very big selection. I wouldn't assume given that their other boards specs state if the slots conform to PCIe 2.0...

Just beware the x4 only PCIe expansion slot if you were considering adding discrete graphics.

Re: Gigabyte GA-EG45M-DS2H is limited to PCIE x4
I don't know if people are aware of this, but it appears that Gigabyte's new G45 board suffers from a significant design weakness. According to the board's block diagram, the main PCIE x16 slot is attached to the southbridge instead of the northbridge. As a result, it offers only 4 lanes of electri...

4800+ > 4850e
Has anyone here done a swap from 4800+ Brisbane to 4850e and noted a significant difference in heat output, cpu fan speed and therefore noise?
The tom's charts certainly show a difference but not a huge one.
The reason I ask is the large difference in purchase price here: $59 v $99.

120mm PWM case fan with NSK2480 & Mini Ninja?
Not sure which section this falls into so I'll try here :D I'm about to commence a build using an NSK2480B, Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H and additional passive 3450 GPU. I've seen the usual set-up when using a mini ninja is to dump both the Tri-cools, install a blanking plate and install one low-volt nexu...

Since I'm still looking around for the best 690G board to buy, maybe I should be looking at the newer generation of chipsets, althought they are more expensive. Are they worth the extra cost? The cost difference is negligible here in Oz and the performance difference vast by all reports. It's certa...
