Re: Undertanding Intel's Turbo Boost Technology and Fan Spee

The Intel stock cooler isn't really a good one. While its able to keep the CPU from burning its not quiet. Definitely swap that for a recommended model as soon as you can. The minimum fan speed on that is typically ~800 RPM or higher, and since its so small temps would rise and fan speed would ramp ...

Re: 'Noob' considering P182 silencing (mods)

Block the top, swap the rear for a Slipstream 800 and plug it into your mobo for control.

Molex extention mod to 5v is simple and safe. I don't think it will work well with a Tricool though. The switch is already undervolting... Go any lower and it might not start.

Re: 'Noob' considering P182 silencing (mods)

This forum is the best in the world IMO. Ok maybe in the top 5... Good choice of vid card. I'd say slipstream 800s should be quiet enough without sacrificing cooling. With your setup you might even get away with 500s , but I personally rather undervolt an 800 than be stuck with a 500 that's too slow...

Re: DAW - Sandy Bridge i7 2600K - in a new Antec P-150!

Nice - I'm thinking about doing something similar except w/ a tad more ram and hoping to fit a gtx 570 as the vid card - I know I sacrifice a bit of noise, but what do you think of the cooling/air flow - think it'll be able to handle it? I've used the Solo for a gaming build a few years back. It wa...

Re: 'Noob' considering P182 silencing (mods)

If it's just PS and DVD with no gaming then just drop a passive gt210 or similar. These should cost ~$30. They don't get hot as they are typically 40nm. Find one that has both DVI and HDMI and your set (with HDMI to DVI cable/adapter). I have Asus gt210 that is just that and it works perfectly for t...

Re: 'Noob' considering P182 silencing (mods)

As far as case fans go I think getting nexus fans to swap the tri cool is a good idea. Block the top and add an intake fan to help with noise and dust. I agree with Luca on the video card. Get a new one that is passive or quiet out of the box. Cooling 8800 was never an easy task. A new card will als...

Re: First silent desktop build - looking for any/all suggest

In terms of power both PSUs can handle a 560i or just about any single card out there.

As far as noise and efficiency the Seasonic leads by quite some margin. If you can afford it there is no question about it really.

990 and 980 still have a slight lead on some content creation apps. Its a very slim lead that shrinks if you considr overclocking

On a workstation it maybe makes sense but I cant see why anyone would prefer 990/980 for a desktop.

I agree 35% is gonna be just fine when gaming. ~80 at full furmark load doesn't seem so high to me, as most video cards can run at 100+ according to specs.

There are 3 valid measurements you can use from that review (not 4) - 25db@12V, 22-21db@9V, and 20db@7V. the <19 cannot be represented as a point on a graph since you don't know it's value. The noise floor in your graph is 2-3 db lower than actual noise floor measured. Thanks for taking the time to...

If the motherboard is infact mATX you can get an Antec 3480 that comes with a 380w PSU. Its basic design supports a quiet system. If the tricool fan isnt quiet enough you can always replace it. I see the board has socket 775. If the BIOS supports it (youll need to find out) a cpu and cooler replacem...

There is absolutely no meaning to a value of 5db for 'the fan alone' as there is no such thing. If SPCR does a two fans on a HS test agian, give me the numbers before two fans are tested together. I will predict what the two fans toghether will measure. The fans should be good ones. like the ones a...

Re: 5dBA 120mm Fan.

Why this is pure theory and has no implication on calculating what your next system will sound like (I just repeating the main points in my argument) - A. sound is frequency dependent. Adding 10db of 100 Hz tone and 10db of 1000 Hz tone will result in a complex waveform 10 db loud. adding to that 10...

It is so interesting in fact, I went back to re read the entire first post. I must say there are some major factors you did not consider. For the first Q I have to say NO. Overclocking is only possible with P67 chipset. With H67 the maximum possible freq is 3.8 for when a single core is active and down to 3.5 for when all cores are active. Thats it. 5.1 on air was done using P67 chipset. As for the second Q, and I really am serious, T...

No, he's right - it means they'll work and nothing more.
