Considering: Gateway NX560

I've got a question for you: I'm looking for a reasonable new laptop machine, and I've heard decent things about Gateway quality and relative freedom from problems. The new NX560 with Core Duo T2300 and ATi X1400 video looks very appealing to me, and it appears to be the best value I'll be able to f...

I think every defective NeoHE that Antec allows to walk out the door is just digging themselves a deeper grave WRT their reputation.

Is Antec still shipping hosed NeoHE power supplies? I've been holding out to RMA mine for a while until the bad product gets out of the retail channels.

I think most anything will run at 5V, as long as it doesn't have a lot of inertia or friction to overcome like in the case of the Panaflos. Give it a shot and see how it works out. If you don't like it, then you're only out $12 or so, which is better than being out something like $60.

Ok, the email to Nexus has been sent. Let's see if they listen to the consumer. I'd like: the greater than 80% efficiency, a big open front intake grille, and big heatsinking that will let the power supply run passive when not under load, and a fan control circuit that won't spin up the fan until th...

Precisely why we'd need to get Fortron or Nexus on board to have this thing. I'd invest to get a power supply and try some different swapped-in fans but I don't have the investment backing to produce an entire line of power supplies.

If the Fortron had more venting area (see drawing -- linked ) it would be a much nicer option. A fan swap would not be that hard to do, though. At the least, it would be a good circuit design, if we could get a Nexus version with a quiet fan and more chassis venting (like there is on the back panel ...

My point is that the people who are covert marketing for a brand's products DO NOT identify themselves as being affiliated with a company or having some financial interest in the success of a company or its marketing efforts. That's why I didn't include a third option in my poll - the very idea of g...

Take a look at the ASUS X1600XT with the heatpiped passive heatsink. This is what I'd like to see, but I'd want it on a larger scale. In what I'd like to see, there would be something like four heatpipes coming out of the top of the video card (the edge that faces you when you look into the computer...

Asus passive-cooled X1600XT

Ok, so over on Newegg, I found an ASUS card based on the ATi X1600XT chipset, and it uses a nice big heatsink that's still low-profle enough that I can use two on an ATi Crossfire motherboard. Do you think this is an okay idea as long as I use a fan bracket? Or is the X1600XT such a waste, even in C...

That's my aim as well. My new computer is going to have 5 fans in it but ideally when at idle, only two will be spinning, and slowly. I'm looking at a pair of ATI X1600XT in crossfire, because I found an ASUS version that has a passive dual-heatpipe heatsink. I think I'll post a thread and ask about...

Well, it is intended that all the advertising on here is to be paid. Companies want to put their ads all over the place but don't want to pay for the ad space, so that makes guerilla marketing all the more attractive. The bottom line is that, whatever the reason companies attempt it for, it has the ...

With the recent increase in the number of companies conducting 'viral marketing' campaigns on web forums, I feel it's appropriate to ask about this site's policy towards this so-called 'viral marketing', and open the topic up for public discussion. Well, Antec, it's time to cough up a new NeoHE for me. I tested my power supply on my friend's Athlon 64/ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe rig, plugging it into everything the other power supply (a ghetto Raidmax unit) was plugged into. It did the same thing - fans spun up for a second, and then everything shut o...

You ought to be okay. You'll notice that a lot of passive solutions run much hotter than active cooling solutions, but that's a small price to pay for noise reduction. If you're not experiencing any problems, I would say that you are fine. Don't worry.

I'm considering the XP90 because it's nice and cheap, and it shouldn't be too hard to get a 92mm fan to run quietly. I'm planning on "auditioning" four 92mm fans - the Nexus 92mm, the Panaflo L1BX 92mm, the Delta tri-blade fans from Sidewinder, and the Akasa Amber Series 92mm.

I highly doubt Thermaltake is in violation of any laws by using a frameless fan. The idea is hardly new - I can remember seeing some Intel P4 heatsinks that used the same concept. It's probably not even patented by Arctic Cooling.

New PSU from Scythe - the Beef Bowl?!

It will be interesting to read a review of Scythe's new 120mm fan PSU. Get ready for - The Beef Bowl. 120mm fan, with a selectable thermal control mode that supposedly lets the fan get as quiet as 16 dBa. But at full speed, Scythe says it will crank out 30dB. So...why "Beef Bowl"? According to Scyth...
