Re: Scythe Big Shuriken 3

are there many cases that have a 80-110mm cooler restriction? the boutique small form factor cases seem to go <48mm, <70mm (specifically for the l12s), or leap to ~130mm and beyond. there's definitely a lack of coolers in the 70-110 range where a 25mm fan on a l12s/bs3 might give you more performanc...

Re: Scythe Big Shuriken 3

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0XWWPXgyOFE he tried it out with a noctua a12x25, got a 3-7 degrees more performance vs the scythe slim fan depending on the heat load. the noctua l12s (70mm when the slim fan is mounted underneath, so the most direct competition) also ran a tad cooler on high heat l...

to clarify, the temperatures shown for the cpu package and max core are absolute/not adjusted for ambient, correct? as you mentioned this round of tests has a few larger discrepancies in ambient temperature so it might be worth adding a column for normalized results. that silverstone fan must move a...

Re: New AMD Ryzen 3000 chips leaked

reddit feedback on chipset fan noise looks decidedly mixed, with claims of "super quiet" (msi pro carbon), both "loud even on silent mode" and "I can't really hear it over the stock 3900X cooler" on the same model (asrock taichi), and fans permanently going at 100% on some gigabyte boards ( this do...

Re: Noctua introduces twin NF-A12x25 NH-U12A CPU cooler

+1 for 8086k so it'll be comparable to the other data you've already generated. I am interested in how low of fan speed you could cool the 9700k, though. maybe after the 8086k tests if there's an obvious winner or two you could rerun with the 9700k. I'll reiterate that these tests are awesome. I com...

Re: Returning to air cooling after 10 years of custom loop .

The msi, biostar, and colorful “leaks” all show active chipset cooling. The asus teaser inconveniently skirts on the edge of the chipset heatsink but it could still be there. Reddit comments were hopeful that the fan would be programmed to only kick in when it’s warranted. I’ve never had a motherboa...

Re: Noctua introduces twin NF-A12x25 NH-U12A CPU cooler

Looks like scythe upgraded the fans for the FUMA 2, opting for one kaze flex and one of their new slim versions. Same (or better?) ram clearance than the u12a, $60 on us newegg. Seems like a direct competitor to the new Noctua

1. I assume it's the 3pin fans connected to the hub that aren't giving you rpm readouts. from the manual it looks like at least one fan needs to be plugged into the white connector as that's the one that provides rpm information to the motherboard. but I wouldn't recommend using those fans as top ex...

Re: GTX 1650 Review compilation thread

Undervolting the 1650 might be able to widen that gap again, though probably only by another ~5-15W. Undervolting is definitely worthwhile for those willing to tinker and keep the software running to apply the settings—I saved a good 15% of power draw while making my card quite a bit easier to cool ...

What’s the goal? Are you unsatisfied with current noise levels or temperatures? What’s currently the loudest component (cpu cooler, gpu cooler, or case fans)? What cpu are you running? Where is the 140mm fan positioned? Have you already configured custom case fan curves and/or gpu fan curves? Given ...

Re: SPCR Help Requested: 2019 Gaming Rig Design

I'm on an asrock itx motherboard that has three 4-pin fan headers and all of my fans are pwm. my exhaust and cpu fans each have their own header, and I plugged the define r6's fan hub into the last one. the fan hub is a glorified splitter, so the same pwm signal goes to each fan connected to it. thu...

Re: SPCR Help Requested: 2019 Gaming Rig Design

Unrelated to noise, at this budget I would consider a 3440x1440 monitor. I bought a AW3418DW and I love the ultrawide format both for gaming and work. I can’t readily distinguish 120Hz vs 144, and this particular model regularly goes on sale in the US for $750-800. It’s about a 20% performance hit c...

subjectively, where do you find the noise floor of the a12x25 and the a15 fans to be? I think I remember you saying the a12 was inaudible under ~800rpm for you, I'm curious what your equivalent speed for the a15 is. basically I'm wondering if the d15s or the u12a would win the "best performance at t...

Re: Noctua introduces twin NF-A12x25 NH-U12A CPU cooler

especially in light of the dual stack nature of the d15s, the second fan being important at low rpm seems logical. I'm also (selfishly) interested in the mugen 5 with two a12x25. to save yourself some time maybe don't bother with two fans at 100% as I'm not sure many people would ever run the fans t...

Fan rpm, temperature, and your subjective assessment of noise is still super valuable data. Your vcore under load would also be nice to have. Pretty impressive results on that d15/8086k, which make me think all the heatsinks you test will perform closely given the relatively low heat levels. I bet t...

Re: Noctua introduces twin NF-A12x25 NH-U12A CPU cooler

Another review , which puts it at 2-4 degrees behind the D15. The noise measurements (done at max speed) are pretty unsurprising given that the a12x25 goes to 2k rpm and there are two of them. Does noctua’s A15 fan have the same acoustic profile as the A14? My experience with the a14 and a12 was th...

Did you ever happen to try the D15S with (either 1 or 2) A12x25? Just curious, I’ve only seen a couple reddit posts that it was a marginal performance improvement but better noise (as one might expect). I haven’t measured yet, but it looks like the u12a would leave enough gap to have 2x cpu heatsink...

Re: Quiet cooler for a Ryzen 2600

I never owned/used a kotetsu as the price difference at the time of ordering led me to pick the Mugen. CPU temperatures were a bit of an afterthought for me with that cooler so I don’t have precise numbers. At roughly 23C ambient, only avx prime95 would force the fan to go above ~50% speed with temp...

How would using three of these in the front of a Fractal R6 instead of two Be Quiet Silent Wings 3 140s compare? I don’t have any personal experience with the be quiet fans, but I do have both A12x25 and A14 fans. I concur that A12 are inaudible at 800rpm, and the increase in noise to 1000rpm is mi...

I had the mugen 5 rev b on my 8700k running at 4.7 all core with a very slight negative voltage offset. I didn't love the fan because in the ~800+ rpm range it had a sort of friction type noise that I hesitate to label a grind. to me it was very subtle and I could only hear it if I listened for it. ...

I'm now looking at this unit for my Ncase M1. I currently have a corsair sf450 plat, and on heavy loads it definitely adds more noise than I'd prefer. the sf600 doesn't look like it'd help much per cybernetics labs. I'm wonder how much heat this fully passive unit would dump into my case, though. at...

I had an unexpected opportunity to snag a Gigabyte 2080 Windforce OC for under MSRP and jumped on it. This is the strict 2-slot, three fan, lowest clock speed model that Gigabyte offers. I'm actually rather impressed with the cooler. With stock settings it's about 4-5 degrees warmer than my MSI 1080...

I certainly appreciate this insight. I have very similar hardware in a Fractal Design Meshify C mini but I'm interested in downsizing the form factor. My MSI Gaming 1080ti stays cool enough (~73c at ~1300rpm/50% in Heaven) and I'm hoping to maintain that noise level going forward. The ultra mini san...
