Old Noctua NH-U12 getting long in the tooth?
So I bought my trusty NH-U12F some 3 years ago, and it's done a good job, but three years is a long time, and looking at the updated CPU coolers list, I wonder if it's time to get a new cooler? Quoting the NH-U12P review: The NH-U12P is substantially better than the original U12 So where does that p...

How do *you* pronounce "Kaze"?
So it occured to me, that the reason why Scythe had all these Japanese names for their products is because it is a Japanese company. Now names like "Kabuto" and "Mugen" may be pronounced somewhat differently in English to Japanese, the structure is still mostly the same. But what about "Kaze"? The "...

Optical drives are noise, there's no way around it. You could try limiting the drive speed, if you don't mind slower data transfer. The old go-to tool was Nero Drivespeed, but it's been split off into a seperate company , where you have to pay for a licence. You can still try it for 30 days though, ...

Oh, and while I am asking for the world, what about turning down the wattage on the block down to levels that many people use in their systems here? Something closer to 40-60 watts - would this have any effect on the data? Might be an interesting experiment, and once you have the fan all rigged up,...

I'd be interested in how similar the 500W PSUs are to the 600W. Can't get the 500W units in Australia as far as I can tell. Thing that ticks me off is that I can't get an 87+ unit that isn't more expensive than the CP-850...which is ridiculously overpowered, and also less efficient...but I might end...

Hm...okay. I don't pretend to know a lot, but isn't an exponential function the inverse of a logarithmic function? I guess if you look at it one way, yes they're the "same" so to speak, but they gave them separate names for a reason, right? Your graph seems to look like a log graph to me: it asympto...

i understand your point, but the lack of controls i'm referring to happened with the spcr mugen2 review, where we see that the nexus fan couldn't put out enough air pressure to take full advantage of the high-impedance mugen2. I think Mike said it well before already: Yes, the Fenrir might very wel...

Rundown of GPU coolers
While definitely not silent computing oriented, Bit-Tech just published a rundown of GPU coolers. Reading now, and the results are interesting to say the least. BT seems to have terrible experiences with Arctic Cooling coolers.

Also, I think it needs to be said...a fan is a fan. Yes, some are better than others in terms of silence, but I get the feeling some people here think some fans are much much better performers than others! In reality, this simply isn't true. SPCR's reviews with a control fan gives us a semi-accurat...

Hey, that's great. I've always been pissed off with front panel headphone connections, I'll try cutting the common ground wire the next time I open up my case. My CPU HSF is due in for reapplication of thermal paste, and I'm about to replace my graphics HSF with an Accelero S1 anyway, just waiting o...

Speedfan does minimise to the taskbar though. And you can set Speedfan to start minimised in the options. (Edit: Oh wait, you wanted fan control BEFORE logging in, sorry) As for EasyTune, and any other app that needs elevated rights to run, you can use Task Scheduler to bypass UAC . Speedfan itself ...
