Generally, you will notice an increase in desktop speed if you make a huge processor jump or get a faster HDD. I know from experience that everything is MUCH faster with a 7200rpm HDD versus a 5400rpm HDD.

You should be fine, but If you have high ambient temps you might have problems. The Nexus does not leave much headroom in terms of airflow.

I have one attached to a SI-97A with an Opty 144, and it works fine in the winter. I might try a 92mm triple blade delta at 5v for the summer though.

My PC i use at work for image editing (not heavy duty mind you) is a 933mhz PIII. Right now I have some cheap PSU and a 120mm thermaltake fan at 5v suspended over the mobo. The fan on the PSU is right over the stock heatsink, and the air from the 120mm fan flows over the heatsink and into the PSU. W...

This fan will put out some air, and at 12v the noise is...acceptable

At say, 5v, it is pretty much inaudible.

I am running a X300 right now, and it really does not get that hot. I have one of those Zalman northbridge flower coolers that i am going to attempt to mount to it, and if it works, I have no doubt that it will be able to provide adequate cooling. That should say something about the X300s heat output.

Don't mean to sound harsh, but I do not believe what you are looking for exists.

I know it would break your one fan method, but even a yate loon or something of that ilk running at minimum speed would be enough to cool the HDD.

EDIT: I like how you did the two laptop drives in one 5.25 bay. Where did you get the adapter for that?

According to the reviews on Newegg, OC'ing does not increase the heat output terribly. And, as you said, I could always buy a faster fan if i had too.

Thanks for the input.

Opteron 144 and Thermalright SI97a

I just recently purchased an Opty 144 1.8ghz stock and plan to OC it to around 2.4ghz or so. I purchased a Thermalright SI97a along with it, and a Nexus 92mm fan to go with that. http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/3922/9918or8.jpg http://mythic.tv/images/nexus92mm.jpg The problem is, i am not sure i...

Here are some different adapters:

http://www.svc.com/4to3ad.html

That one is 4 pin molex to 3 pin, but only for power.

http://www.svc.com/pana4ptail-rpm.html

The above adapter allows for rpm sensing as well.

I think I solved the fan mystery. :)

This is the fan in my case, and it says at 12v, you get 1000 rpm. That sounds right by my ear, as I have no way of measuring my fans actual rpm. It also looks similar to yours.

Watch it if you plan on using a Celeron D. They are Prescott core based, and the one i have (2.8ghz) idles fairly cool at around 35-37C. Put any load on them however, and temps go up quick (40-47/48C). These temps are with a Scythe Katana, and with the stock cooler it would regularly run 50C and up....

I need that exact heatsink for the P3 build im working on:

930mhz coppermine, with a 130mm silent wheel cooling it and the PSU at the same time.

Good job on that though. Nothing better than building a cheap, but still moderately useful, PC.

I have a Prescott Celeron 2.8ghz that idles at 35-39 and at load maximum about 50 degrees Celsius with a Scythe Katana.

I know P4s are hotter, but it's hard to imagine they would be that much hotter.
