Nice idea to test color reproduction. However the color corrected images have too high contrast. On the Samsung the overall effect is worse than default. Probably not too important as people using these monitors are unlikely to correct color unless it's done automatically by the OS installing a prof...

Re: Media Player Classic... not happy with SSD/W7/Quad?!

Hey guys. Computer related but not directly silencing related, so posted here. I recently upgraded my system with an SSD, W7, and a quad-core CPU. The problem is that Media Player Classic (Home Edition) ... It should be noted that it happens when opening the program on its own and not only when dou...

I guess the D945GSEJT is looking to be the best low power board at the moment, a 12W envelope is impressive. Then pineview should be even more so: http://www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=20134 Claims the higher-clocked one will have 6.5W TDP including GPU. Main issue with the D945GSEJT that I can...

Nice hardware, but really ugly. Just make it silver or white, and a simple shape, can't go wrong! Instead black distorted shapes with unnecessary details that won't appeal to anyone with a sense of style - the type of person attracted to Apple designs. You don't need to be a design genius, just make...

Bumping an old thread to see if there are new answers. No-one seemed to be getting particularly low power, given that WHS doesn't require any graphics and can take a slow CPU. Presumably current integrated graphics tends to draw power even if unused? Any motherboards in the works that could make for...

The biggest problem I have is to find a low power motherboard. Now with the new Clarkdale with integrated memory controller, video and low TDP 73W for low end i3 there will be almost nothing left on the motherboard. Yes hopefully there should be even more Mini-ITX boards for this reason. 45nm vs 32...

Re: Proposed DAW Build

I've got 3TB of home server storage, so I'm not worried about the RAID. I've seen some research that indicates that some DAW s/w do not interact well with integrated graphics which is why I proposed a passively cooled GPU. Just saw this comment. This is just hocus pocus by people who don't understa...

Yes an important difference is integrated graphics, but also smaller form factors are tuned for lower power consumption in component choices and VRMs.

The SVN is the version to use. They release MPC-HC very rarely; last release was last year and there are lots of improvements and fixes since then. In order to get WMP to work with DXVA in Vista you need to go through a complex process of installing the MPC-HC video decoder, and then some things don...

Comments? Sell, build from scratch. mATX system using integrated graphics. This system is power-hungry, hard to silence. Make sure to use a 45nm processor. A good system would be dual core processor, 4GB RAM, M-Audio, or better E-MU. A higher-end system would be quad-core, 8Gb RAM, RAID, RME soundc...

I think it makes sense for the (non-server) market to split into: - ATX: dedicated gamers with dual discrete video cards - Micro-ATX: regular 3D gaming with a single video card, or specialist systems using one or more PCI/PCI-express slots (e.g. professional audio, discrete video for GPGPU); mobos w...

For AMD I'd go for a 780G/785G microatx or mini-itx motherboard, and a new 45nm X2 240.

Re: Onboard video for 1080p?

My laptop with GMA4500HD doesn't do DXVA either. Intel will not release their documentation, though the folks at Cyberlink probably have it working with their PowerDVD software. You won't get it with MPC-HC, though. I was aware this used to be a problem with G45 but I thought this was working now. ...

I disagree. This is great value. And will have TRIM support.
For $225 you get an 80Gb boot drive, a decent size for OS and programs and non-media files for many people. A drive which might double or triple the speed of the computer for average uses. Low-power, silent, small, and robust too.

Great review; this is very useful, and nice choice of components too. Shows it's still not easy to build a quiet and powerful mini-itx system, but it's definitely easier now this case is there. Ion-based HTPCs and home servers have become easy with this case. When Intel comes out with presumably low...
