My calculation: 3A for the 6800GT, 6A for the CPU, 2A for the hdd, 2A for the DVD. That's 13A for boot peak. Looks borderline but should have enough headroom. I bet you could run that system with a 14A 300W Fortron PSU. You're forgetting things like the Northbridge, fans and accessories. Normally t...

With a single Samsung harddrive 14A should be enough. I'd say the problem lies with Thermaltake than with wattage. The Tt probably can't deliver the amps advertised. My calculation: 3A for the 6800GT, 6A for the CPU, 2A for the hdd, 2A for the DVD. That's 13A for boot peak. Looks borderline but shou...

Rusty, I'd argue that that statement is also very dependend on the case and how you setup your airflow. On my Sonata, I reversed the rear fan to an intake, added a very slow spinning 120mm inside the case, just behind the PSU to force some cool air into it and the result is both my CPU and my PSU is...

Shall we try and put a more realistic and informed judgement into this argument? The DFI boards are marketed as overclocking boards. They have the ability to go to EXTREME overclocks - provided with monster voltages & airflows. Now, as this is Silent PCReview, while we may all wish for a little over...

WELCOME TO SPCR !!! First off, don't curse your mobo but praise your lucky stars. Most Barton 2500 won't do 2200MHz at anything less than 1.75V :) To see if you've got a nidec samsung, just look at the large round metal thing under the hdd, it should be printed there. Video: That's a hot card. I ki...

If you think Pittsburg is mad, come to Istanbul (actually there's a warning for this in US consulate brochures  ) For in-city driving, I use a one-handed method but I keep my left hand at the 10 position and my right on the clutch (no automatic gear on %99 of cars here, plus it's a great disa...

The max power draw of your CPU is 77W. The Zalman 7000b should cool the 2.6c with the fanmate at minimum even at full load - maybe even lower, provided your case airflow is good enough. You probably won't need to go below 5V until you get to the stage of cutting out fan grills, decoupling harddrives...

After spending some time at cooling down my anger, I'll try to explain what I mean once more: Aphex, You've got the answer you requested in the pointer for the Tek-chain, plus the two (Yate Loon and Globe) I mentioned that meet your criteria, not to mention the Arctic Cooling fans. On top of that I ...

WELCOME TO SPCR !!! *wipes away the saliva and slaps head to stop staring at the P180* How about a Seasonic, maybe the S12 for the PSU? I think Edward Ng's passive cooling of AGP version 6600GT could be more easily applied to the PCI Express version. Thats one noise source less "Optical-gaming". By...

your client will obviously benefit greatly from the 64-bit windows when it gets out. AFAIK, the VIA SATA implementation isn't very good. It's dependent on CPU power and shares IRQs with other important things that I don't exactly remember. Not a difference worthy of note on a desktop environment but...

Aphex, You've got an answer in tek-chain. You could also look into Globe or Yate Loon fans. Finding ones with rpm feed may be a little hard though. The Panaflo M1A and L1A DONT have rpm feed. BUT PLEASE BE AWARE THAT YOU'RE PUSHING AWAY ALL HELP TO GET YOUR RIG QUIETER. You DONT need so many fans. E...

The drive cage suspension shouldn't be any different than drive suspension - it makes zero contact with the rest of the case. I didn't have any good foam that gave me equivalent results of suspension. If I had sorbothane....? The drives DO make contact with the cage - the screws are the usual ways s...

Ghetto-mod Extreme !!
This is Odin. It's literally a PC thrown together from excess parts. Everything except the mobo and the CPU sink is old. I put it together to serve as a standalone web server and a folder :) As such, I've never had the inclination to make it especially quiet or spend money on it to make it so. The v...

sven, for 99.9% of the PC community, the PSU is louder than the Zalman at 5V :) The reason I like the Zalman is because it can be very heavily undervolted. If can go down way below 5V without freezing up or the clicking becoming annoying. For those who don't/can't mod, it's an easy quiet cooler in s...

mathias, I didn't quite understand your question. The reason I did things this way is I wanted to use the cage as some sort of giant heatsink yet still have suspension. The heatsink part did work - marginally though. Those seagates run hot. Right now they run at 37C. I'm thinking of taking out the f...

What I'll suggest is usually NOT desirable. But in your case, it might be necessary. #1. Take Gholam's advice and get the NV Silencer. Your VGA card is a really hot one, getting its heat out of the case ASAP is good thinking. The Zalman 7000B-AlCu is also good but you'll also need the LGA775 bracket...

Noiseblocker fans are only RELATIVELY quiet at full 12V - and that's just too loud for 95% of SPCR. They also click and the click becomes worse as you undervolt. Effectively a louder annoying click replaces the motor whine & air whoosh as you undervolt. I've tried both the 80mm S2s and the 120mm Bla...

Could the Hydrowave bearings not work properly at lower RPM's? There's one problem for you. 120mm Panaflo's are NOT Hydrowave. It seems the Hydrowave technology cannot handle the large weight/torque required in large fans. That is why, even before the nexus, while the Panaflos were the reference fa...
