"that is why questions not relating to quiet computing and/or heat are considered off-topic." Overclocking/underclocking are both very relevant in the context of quiet computing - underclocking as it makes in easier to quiet a PC, and overclocking as it makes it harder. If you don't know bus speeds ...

If temps are at 26C now, I would guess that you could run the XP-90 fanless provided you had some case airflow moving past it (exhaust fan nearby or something). However, I think it's something you're just going to have to try, unless you've got a friend who'll loan you for a while. Out of interest, ...

I got hold of a couple of these in Australia. I find them to be very quiet at 12v - mainly a whooshing noise, about as loud as a Zalman CPNS7000 at 5v. Perhaps just slightly louder than the stock fan on an Antec 3700BQE, but pushes a bit more air I think. However, when undervolted, there is a distin...

If angled HDDs are a problem, how come they are OK in the new G5 imacs? The screen can be tilted back and forth for good angle, and the HDD is in the back of the screen....?

I have the Enermax, and highly recommend it.

I bought it after reading the reviews here at spcr, and it met and surpassed my expectations. Just make sure you get the ATX 2.0 spec version (the newer one).

I recently purchased the Enermax 470W (probably overkill, but I plan to upgrade soon) and it is miles ahead of my old generic. The amount of heat being put out of the back of the PSU (much less) suggests greater efficiency - I have no way of comparing directly, but the Enermax doesn't ramp up its fa...

Throttle by using a bay rheobus or rewire a molex to deliver 5 or 7v to the front fan. Or, try a zalman type fan controller if it's a 3-pin. I have 4 hdds in the front of my case without a fan, but I'm looking for one since it's getting pretty toasty in these 30C days down here (Melbourne, although ...

For cheap fans, for sure they can fail. I bought 4 for $10 once (yes, I should have known) and 2 failed within about a week and the other about 3 or 4 months later.

The one that survives though is very quiet so I still use it : )

Re: Strange temps on Athlon XP 2200 and a7v400-mx

Is is a thermally controlled fan on the h/s? Maybe the sensor is not working or not in a good enough spot. Once you load up the CPU, does the fan speed go faster so that it ends up not heating up much more past 60? 2200+ is thoroughbred core right? So it shouldn't be that hot. I have the same mobo w...

Hi, first post at SPCR but longtime reader. I have the BQE 3700 and have to say I really don't think the criticism of the sideways HDD mounting is warranted. I'm sure it blocks a bit of air but the arrangement is very practical and useful. The stock grommet/tray system is also very good at minimisin...
