Neil- One thing I'm still having trouble figuring out about your idea is the "swept back" thing. You see, the normal "swept forward" design makes sense to me. But if you imagine a swept back design, that would bring the angle of tilt of the tips of the fans to be nearly parallel to their direction o...

Heh... um sadly I don't really know TOO much about PWM or how to test for it, except what you already have heard: that PWM tends to make panaflo L1A's clicky. I had a cheap little fan controller that a friend of mine gave to me, and it apparently used PWM. I can't be certain, but I do know that it m...

Uhh... just thought I'd add my two cents: For HDD performce-related issues, I'd go check out storagereview.com - if you look at their leaderboard, they have the Maxtor MaXLine III as the leader for the most recent quarter. They also claim that it has unusually quiet performance. If you do a head-to-...

DrCR -- I've been considering for awhile now the possibility of using a side duct for intake to a Nexus on an XP-120, then ducting the rear exhaust and around the heatsink, forcing air expelled through the fins to go out rear exhaust, and then forgoing the use of a fan on the rear exhaust (or like y...

Not sure if this should go here, but...
It is about my system: I'm not really familiar with what heat sensors refer to what temps in my system (eg, temp1=cpu?, temp2=??), and here I thought I'd try speedfan, to see if my mobo uses pwm fan control, I was presented by this: http://www.humboldt.edu/~sdh13/oddtemps.gif Could someone please ex...

OK could I just say I check SPCR now twice daily to see if the P180's have started shipping yet? So yeah, it's generated QUITE a bit of interest... :? It's just a bit frustrating having to wait for so long to get a nice, long, in-depth spcr review of one... or have the chance to purchase one myself....

Here's something that I've been confused about since I first saw/heard about this case: WHAT is the purpose of the mesh dust-screen-lookin-thing that everyone seems to be calling a "spoiler"? Why would one want to filter the air coming out of the case? Hopefully we would put effort into filtering ai...

Mike - You're right... it was a bit of an over-reaction. I guess I was just hoping that maybe the whole side-vent thing had been improved and was maybe worth revisiting. Apparently that's just not the case. But hey... has anyone else experienced a ridiculously quiet, basically inaudible Antec 350S P...

OK, Mike, this may be a dumb question, but... which direction was the air in the duct going? From the front of the case to the back, or vice versa? It just seems to me that if you have it pulling air in from the back of the case that you'll be putting room-temp air directly onto your heatsink, which...

Samsung SP1614N only showing ~127gigs?
I recently bought one Samsung PATA 160gig harddrive for a new system. When I was installing Windows XP Prof, it showed the maximum space for one partition to be ~131000 megs, and now in Windows, my partition is shown as ~127gigs. Could someone give me some enlightenment as to what's going on here? S...

Also... Running the system with 2 instances of CPUBurn to heat things up as much as possible, I got case temps of 35°C and CPU temps of 49°C at an ambient temperature of 70°F. this sentence makes very little sense, seeing as how: (A.) the table shows 33°C, while the sentence says 35°C... which is co...

Ralf, What are those tests supposed to demonstrate? Some of the graphs have unlabeled axis, and overall, it's somewhat hard to tell if higher is better or lower is better. Sadly, I think I've been spoiled by anandtech.com reviews... but seriously, does that review show any of those drives coming out...

I know this is a very old thread, but please let me resurrect it for a simple-minded question. From what I understand (just off the top of my head), isn't maximum IDE throughput 133mb/s? Also, isn't the theoretical maximum throughput for SCSI 160mb/s? Finally, isn't the theoretical maximum throughpu...
