None of the modern 48x+ drives are silent. None. Repeat that. None. You are trying to find the least noisy drive and in my personal opinion (having tried Plextor, Yamaha, LiteOn, Samsung, LG and couple of others) the best ones are usually LG and Samsung. But they are NOT silent by the normal SilentP...

Also, 60PN series have about the biggest heat sinks around. You are definitely talking about a different model. The question arises though, which model? Looking at Fortron Sourge model catalog, I can only find one model (60PN) that has 120mm fan. Are you sure the 'loud' model you are referring to ha...

I'm not an expert on this, but two things: 1) If it doesn't show on your electricity bill, it doesn't mean that energy is not lost. PF problems cause a lot of extra work and power transmission loss to electricity companies, hence correcting PF does save energy (companies may just may not be able to ...

I don't think he was referring to fluorocarbons. Quote from the Verax review: "[PFC] it is very relevant to real electricity consumption and energy conservation." So, by all means get an active PFC unit. You'll not only save on energy, but also your power company will be happier the more people use ...

Silent dvd-rom and CDRW drives
I have mostly been reading and asking questions so far, so I think it's time to contribute something back. I'll start off by listing the least noisy modern dvd-rom and cdrw drives I've been able to find personally. My search has not been exhaustive, but I have tried several models from LG, Samsung, ...

I have ordered one FSP300-60PN(PF) for my quite hot computer (running modified Enermax 465AX right now). I'm also trying to get hold of: - fan isolators (to fasten the 120mm fan into the supply) - psu silical gel dampening mat (to isolate psu from the case) I will report back when I have been able t...

Damping CDRW / DVDRW drive vibration?
What kind of tricks and materials have people used to successfully dampen the vibrational noises of modern CDRW and DVDRW drives? I already know of the software solutions to slow down the rotational speed of drives, but what I'm seeking is additional dampening of the vibrations of cdrw/dvdrw drives....

Mr_Smartepants, thanks for the offer. I need more than a few myself though :( I misread your location, so I'm happy to see you're within Euope as well. Can you tell me how much was the postage? Also, have you been able to correctly identify which part number is the exact same piece as the Fan isolat...

Fan isolators via mail order from EU ?
Any place that sells good fan isolators (like these: http://www.siliconacoustics.com/fanisolators1.html ) in EU?
Silicon Acoustics is ok, but having to pay $25 for shipping on goods that cost $8 doesn't really strike as funny to me :)
So, anybody know where to buy them in EU?
regards,
Halcyon

Looks very useful. Build instructions / schematics / parts would be nice, if you have time and are willing to share. I wish somebody would sell something as well thought out as this in a metal casing for ready installation into an expansion slot. I haven't found any good (silent/cool) controllers wi...

Sparkle is made by Fortron Source Power Group, not the other way around. A good candidate would be FSP350-60PN (PF). This is with a 120mm single fan. Pay close attention to the last numbers/letters in the model number, don't just buy any FSP350 moel. If you get PFN, ATV, BTV or some other model, it ...

I'd be happy, if I could locate the source of my electrical noise problems and eliminate that. After that the measurements I have gotten would be good enough for me. For some time at least. I'll get a Fluke electricity quality tester here soon with a friend who has experience in using them. Let's se...

I don't think it's a ground loop, because I have a single ground contact. No way for a ground to loop, because there is only one point to the ground :) I have read many excellent Tomi Engdahl papers on ground loop solving, but unfortunately I haven't had much help following the advice (even though i...

Electric noise of PSUs
I have a noise problem with my PSU (Enermax 465AX-VE(W) ), which is electrical noise. I get noise in my both of my sound cards at the exact multiples of 50 Hz (our mains frequency in EU). I'm already connected to a properly grounded mains outlet and have tried a line interactive UPS. Are there some ...

How 12 dBA becomes 25 dBA
So, you're putting that supa-silent 12 dBA Papst fan into your case and thinking it solves your noise problems. Think again. Here's an example how vibration, restriction of airflow and other issues can make even very low dBA rated fans make at least 25 dBA of noise: http://www.dirkvader.de/page/fan-...
