omg a recomended fan list, its so simple and yet so great an idea. Is there ever gonna be a recommended case section, and a recommended retail premade system? you know I once thought about posting such recommendation but feared it might be too newbie-ish... I still think it'd be a good easy-to-acce...

Re: Some PSU questions...
1. Is it possible to convert a AT PSU to a ATX PSU? 2. I have several AT PSU's... Is it possible to run one completly fan-less? or just have a slow5v fan? The PSU i had in mind was a 145w AT... Will thatone run hot? You can convert AT cables to ATX like this: http://www.quietpcusa.com/acb/showdetl....

it seems Ralf has hit the nail on the head on suggesting an issue with the memory -- the test indicated numerous errors. After swapping the RAM, my computer has booted into XP for the first time in a couple days. Kudos! I don't know if there are more damages to be found, but I hope this is all. This...

thanks for the suggestion ez2remember. However, I have determined via harddrive swapping that it doesn't seem to be a harddrive-specific problem: I took a harddrive from another computer that has the OS in working condition, plugged it into my computer, boot up and, surprise, blue screen occurs. Put...

Ooo, sounds bad. So the new troubles are with an unmodded Enermax? Have to tried swapping the HD? If the data is no valuable, try reformat before installing the OS. I think you need to find out whether the PSU cooled the mobo or HDD or both. Hopefully nothing -- except maybe itself. What kind of am...

Ack, I'm not sure what just happened to my computer. I had left my modded generic PSU running for a few days and all was quiet and well, until Windows started being unstable yesterday. I turned the power off and the PSU smelled awful and felt very hot, but there were no firework or anything. Obvious...

PSU temperature and voltage readings
Can one tell when the PSU gets too hot by only looking at its voltage readings (eg in MBM)? I just got a random reboot so I'm concerned, and I haven't gotten around to getting a thermometer yet. I have one 80mm NBM at 7V in a generic 300w PSU powering. The exhaust feels warm but not too terribly hot...

Without getting technical, as long as you have lots of other stuff drawing power from both 12V and 5V lines, and you don't have a lot of fans on 7V, it's safe. But it *can* be more stressful for the PSU. If anyone can explain this I would be interested. I have 5 fans running at 7V at the moment fro...

This is likely right kind of laquer, since it is suitable also for coils and transformers. It is necessary to use quite a lot of it, so it goes between the copper wires inside the coil. And even it is quickly drying, the drying time will be at least 12 hours or more. Just curious, assuming you (or ...

Could the whine be similar to the type in CRTs? It was suggested in another thread to spray lacquer coating into coils to silence it. Might this work for the PSU? http://forums.silentpcreview.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2195 Oh well, I've given up on the Enermax (my 2nd one too *sigh*) and went back ...

hkgolden, I think you summed it up nicely. OK here's a wrench in the works: I'm considering taking the Enermax off the recom list altogether. Why? 1) None are quiet in stock form - they're downright noisy. 2) Quieting them takes a lot of somewhat dangerous work 3) When run with low airflow (at high...

Enermax whines, but not from fans
I've discovered a high-pitch noise from my Enermax EG351P-VE. It's coming somewhere from its electric components. The noise is clearly audible from several feet away. I wonder what causes this, and if this is just me? [I just read a post by MikeC mentioning an Enermax dying from a year of low airflo...

For my Enermax 350w, I started by taking out the 80mm and leaving and undervolting the 92mm. Then I replaced the stock 92mm with a Zalman that came with the Zalman CPU cooler, running it at 5V. As I recall it wasn't very quiet. Now I use two 80mm NMBs at 7Vs. I don't dare to go beyond that since I d...

assuming my rheostat is working in accord with specs, my 92mm fan is running: 2500rpm at 11V (rated max voltage of rheostat; fan is rated at 2800rpm+/-10% at 12V) 1500rpm at 5V 1500rpm/2500rpm = 60% 5V/11V = 45% That doesn't seem very linear, but if rpms include 10% error then the ratios may be clos...
