No modifications except a GeForce FX56000

1 Case Fan + 1 Power Supple + 1 GPU Fan

edit: oh ya I forgot to say that it spikes up to 70dB under high load.

Does that Linksys router make any noise?

Logically, I have to say it doesn't, but HEY this forum is filled with paranoia! :)

Hmmm, just to correct one nice mistake - dB measurinngs are supposed to be taken from 1meter (approx 3 feets) from the object!

When you get such close, no wonder the dB ramp up like crazy :P
Try 1m and we see

I dubt your computer is THAT loud, unless barely you can hear what you say

Most routers make a high-pitched squeal all the time. At least, these five of mine do:

- Linksys (wired 4-port)
- Netgear x 2 (1 wireless 'g', 1 wired)
- SMC x 2 (1 wireless 'b', 1 wired)

They're all barely audible except the older, non-wireless SMC, which is clearly audible across the room. It sounds somewhat like a muted television, except slightly lower in frequency.

And yeah, those measurements are completely arbitrary. A cricket will probably measure 100db if you get close enough.

Putz - I own NetGear RP614v1 (firewall/router), 2x WGR614v1 (firewall, router, WiFi g) routers and FS108 switch and NONE of then did not make ANY sound at all - and there is no reason they should, no fan there, nothing moving, etc

Pls tell me, what the hell of switch/router you buy to it make any noise?!?!

trodas,

Same reason as a PSU can whine. In most cases, the noise is very slight (ie. you have to put your ear up to the thing to hear it), but it is always present in every router I have ever had the chance to hear.

true, my router makes a very high-pitched sine tone too. I could easily imagine some people are simply unable to hear such high frequencies. My ears are perfect, though. :S

Someone I know has one that squeals *some* of the time. It's some cheap wireless B router (belkin?), and it only whines when wireless capability is turned on.
