Hi everyone
I got a dell i8600 for xmas and i want to know of there's any silent mods i can do for it? maybe replace any of the fans w/ quiter ones.. or something. it's pretty silent at the moment, but i think there's room for improvement.. besides im dying to open it up.

I bought the same laptop ($750 discount; couldn't resist) and have been wondering the same; is the VPU fan the loudest thing in your 8600 too? Luckily mine only kicks in under 3D gaming!

I guess you both heard of i8kfan ?
The same guy also made a speed controller.
Both works quite well with all Dell laptops. It seems to support graphic cards control as well, but I can't tell as mine is integrated (D400).

You can easily shut down completely all the fans during desktop activities (that's what I'm doing) and eventually throttle down the CPU.

On my laptop, web/outlook use, 1.4 GHz, no fans, 38°C CPU, 33°C HDD.

(OT : I just saw they're making a P4 3.4 GHz laptop ... would be nice for cooking during outdoors activities).
