Woohoo :)
I killed the chipset cooler on my sinxp 1394, and replaced it with the zalman NB heatsink instead.
I am now at the point where the most noticable noise from my machine is the noise of my barracuda IV working! Sure the fans are audible, but they are at a constant quiet "shhhhh". Never in a million years thought my barracuda would be the single component to catch my ear! I am one happy man

Same thing happened to me. I've gotten the computer to a quite reasonably quiet level and now my monitor's (Samsung 19") buzzing is driving me crazy. It buzzes less if I take the frame rate down from what it lists as the optimal settings. It's the best I can do until I can afford a LCD screen or con one for my birthday.

Is there such a thing as a silent monitor?
I had a Mitsibushi DiamondPro 750SB which was only audible when I got my system quiet. That was the main noise culprit even though its unhearable to the untrained ear. My family and friends could not hear the noise I was talking about.
I changed that quality unit for another quality unit, Eizo FlexScan L367 15" DVI TFT panel, very expensive unit at £350 ($500+) and there is still a very low whine that I can hear, mind you sightly quieter than the monitor I had before.
If anyone comes across a silent unit I would like to know.. When I mean silent, I mean stick you ears next to the vents and if you can hear it, then it's probably not quieter.

...I just go for a good pair of Seinheissers....
Headphones are teh shit.
I'm going to buy a pair when I get back stateside, methinks....It's SO hard to beat a good pair of headphones. My dad has a ridiculously nice stereo (all solid state, mum about passed out when he told her the bill), and I still think the 580's sound better when paired with a good source....
And they help make everything sound nice en' quiet.
