Monitor humming noise - help!

Post by maxxymus » Wed Jan 14, 2004 5:50 am

Hey folks,

I'm glad to say that because my case is so silent I can now hear the humming sound of my monitor. It's a new Samsung 959NF 19" CRT and it's hum is pretty dominant. I wanted to know if anyone has experienced any humming problems with this monitor and if there is any way that I can turn down the noise on it!!! It's driving me crazy!

Cheers.

This has been gone over a few times before, but the long and short of it is...most CRT monitors hum, some less than others and the hum tends to get louder as they age.

I have the same issue, but it's probably not going away for me until I can afford an LCD monitor.

But this is a new monitor.. from the box.. a week old.. Should I return it for a new one or not even bother? I would get an LCD but the problem is it's lacking in games and the "native resolution" problem... who can run games at a native resolution of 1280x1024??? :|

I certainly can. "System #2" in my sig is my gaming system and I run at 12080 x 1024 in every game that lets me. I'm using a Sapphire ATI9600Pro Ultimate vidcard.

Yeah and that will hold on for how long? Needless to say... Doom3.. HL2... etc. I have a strong PC but it wont be THAT strong.. I like eyecandy as well.

What about the Samsung 173T? It's expensive, but should handle games pretty well, don't you think? Heh, I don't know, I'm asking you. I've read though that the LCD has almost caught up with the CRT now.

I have no idea what LCDs are good for gaming except for the Iiyamas which have 16ms response time :/

Also depends what sorts of games you play :) If you're not into FPS, then half-decent LCDs are fine for games.

I'm into FPS games.. battlefield (desert combat).. more so I have lousy pings to servers so I will add another 16-20ms to my ping coz of the monitor.. add the burnt pixel issue, add the native resolution issue.. it becomes a problem for gamers

btw, I've thrown a shirt over the top of my monitor and it's silent.. heh... I will be contacting samsung importer to fix this problem (I hope)

Did the same thing a while ago (shirt on monitor), then rested hand on shirt, felt far too much heat and took the shirt straight back off....
