Extreme Makeover: ATX Case Edition

Post by thejamppa » Thu Jul 31, 2008 7:26 am

Hi all!

I got this machine from my big brother after the scraop build which replicated this one. Case was pretty messed up. So my friend ( Whom bought this computer from me ) and I did some extreme make over and mods for this case. Prior my big brother had this case, 1st owner had done modifications etc.

Modifications: Removed fan grilles from front and back. Sealed extra holes back that 2x80mm fan placement had with and sealing rough edges with u-rubber.

And of course the paint job. My friends wife decide the colours as computer would need to BLEND IN the decor... Well, she wanted inside to be white or silver. White we went as white paint was cheaper than silver. And since inside the case will be installed UV-lights, it likes more white surface.

Hardware:
PSU: LC-power 420W
MB: K7N2-Delta Platinium nForce 2 Ultra 400
Soundcard: Creative Soundblaster Audigy
CPU: AMD 3200+ Barton socket-A
CPU cooler: Aerocool HR 101 + 80mm NCB fan
Memory: 2x512mb KingstonValue 400Mhz DDR
VGA: Club 3D GF 6600 GT AGP 8x 256MB GDDR3
HDD: Maxtor 250GB HDD
Case: X-spider. I can't remember manufacturer...
Optical: LG GSA-4160 DVD-ram
Floppy: Generic Beige
Fans intake: 2x Noiseblocker X1 1500 rpm 80mm fans
Side: 1x Sharkoon Silent Eagle 1000 RPM 80mm
Exhaust: 1x 120mm Noiseblocker XL1 1000 RPM fan

Backside before. Fan grils were ok but caused still turbulence a lot. Also previous paint job from the first user of this case remained... well seen...
Image

Back side from further. You can see 2x800mm/1x120mm fan placement in exhaust. PRetty common for 2002-2004 "gaming" cases.
Image

The window side before. 1st owner had tries to cover worst scratches with blue paint... Its not hard to see where...
Image

Hardware, cables and the yellow paintjob from the 1st owner.
Image

Side panel before. This... almost made me cry. If animal would have been this bad condition, most peoples would have put it out of its misery. Horrible scratches and paint attempts.
Image

Top luckily wasn't SO bad... Still... pretty bad...
Image

After 3 hours of work:

This is window side after paint job.
Image

Back side after modding and paint job. Looks pretty darn good IMHO.
Image

Front shot, door closed. Not too shabby looking either.
Image

Front door open. Yeah, we kind missed a spot there behind the door...
Image

No scratches or two coloured paint job anymore. Wohoo!
Image

Yeps, all the nasty scratches are gone from here too.
Image

Once I get system runnign with the lights etc, I'll take few more pictures. I think I've plagued SPCR long enough with my crappy phone pictures, I hope I get my Canon Digital Ixus soon...

That blue on white colour scheme is pretty slick. Good job! 8)

i like the exterior paint job, nice and even. spray paint? paint brush? i can't tell.

just a couple of questions

do you plan on taking off the plexiglas and painting that part too?

what's your plan for the interior? i can't remember where, but i remember reading about one guy going into a CrossFire setup and he painted his whole interior a glossy red, candy apple red is the best i know how to describe it (and all of his other components PCB were red). it looked awesome, and the case was a glossy black on the outside if i remember correctly.

for the lighting, are you going the CCFL route, or LED?

despite my hatred for case doors, i think it looks great
