Tricks of the P180
for the life of me, i was never able to get the bottom harddrive bay wiring cleaned up sufficiently that i could feel safe that it wasnt gonna come off the hdd's.
then when i had my computer apart today installing the new motherboard and CPU, i realized:
the power cables need to come from the front.
much cleaner than it was before. and before, when i'd push the hdd cage back into place, the sata power cables would come off the harddrives they were on, breaking the raid array when i turned it back on. no longer.
also.... blue curacao makes a nice substitute for triple-sec in a margarita...ish drink.

What you need to do is make your own power cable for the lower bay. I'll get pictures of one of mine next time I have it out for cleaning.
They're easy to make, you just need to cut a cable to length and punch it down on four of the right-angle type connectors (like the first and third in your picture).

heh. well, close enoughpiglover wrote:Only the later versions. For the first year or so the p180B lacked the cutouts. Unfortunately, I have an early one and had to cut them myself.Fayd wrote:FWIW, the p180B also had the cutouts on the back.
picking up the p182 for $90 from frys like 2 years ago is one of the only purchases that i continually regard as having been a good decision.
