Standard fans in P150/P180b

Post by Schlotkins » Fri Nov 30, 2007 6:48 am

How are the fans that come with the P180b and P150? Are they quiet or should I plan on replacing them? My setup with be:

Gigabyte DSR rev 2
Core 2 Duo E4600
2 Gigs of RAM
fanless ATI PRO2400
Ninja cooler with 120mm fan @ 5V
2 Samsung HDD in RAID 1 configuration
Corsair VX450

Same setup in both cases....

Thanks,
Chris

They are standard Antec Tri-Cools. They are quiet-ish when set to "Low", but some find them too loud even at that speed. I find them tolerable there, since the setup of my workstation doesn't reflect the sound from the back of the case up to me.

But unless your CPU fan is one of the quietest one mentioned around here, it's unlikely to be a problem.

They are ok, but as your pc gets more and more silent (after some new parts and a bit of case tweaking and the likes) you'll really notice the 'whoosh' sound they make on low. But if you have a bit of ambiant noise in/near your room, you should have no trouble with them at all.

If you can afford it, replace the Tri-Cool with anything else like a Scythe Jyuni, S-Flex, Nexus, or Yate Loon depending on your needs and budget. I find all Tri-Cools untolerable even on Low, and their airflow at that speed is pretty bad too.

Are the low speed Scythe's good? I would need 2 for the P180b and 1 for the p150 correct?

Thanks,
Chris
