Will an Antec SOLO provide enough cooling?
I'm planning to run the following. Will an Antec SOLO provide enough cooling for me?
- AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE
- Radeon HD 4850 (or maybe 5750)
- 2 WD Caviar Black 750GB drives (or comparable)
If I overclock, it will be just a tiny bit.
Thanks!
(also, how do I figure out how much wattage I need in my PSU?)

Sure will. After all, this isn't a particularly hot setup. 1 x 120mm in the back, 1 x 92mm in the front and that's it. 4850 will no doubt require active cooling, but 5750 can have a fanless cooler - the 92mm in the front will be providing the airflow. No need to take special care of the HDDs, they'll be fine by themselves.
A quality 400W will be more than enough, even after a not so mild overclock.

Solo is fine.adamlevy wrote:I'm planning to run the following. Will an Antec SOLO provide enough cooling for me?

You can put a Yate Loon D12SL-12 ($4) in the back if the Antec Tri cool on low is too noisy for your tastes. Or you could get fancy and get a Slipstream 1200 RPM for about twice the cost. http://jab-tech.com/home.php?cat=81&sor ... irection=0 has all the models.
If you put traditional hard drives in I'd look at http://www.jab-tech.com/Scythe-S-FLEX-S ... -4444.html for the front fan position(s). Depends on the placement of the drives and mounting method if you want one or two.
Power supply required would be anything with a 6 pin PCIe connector say a Corsair VX450W.
Power supply recommended would be something quieter like the Seasonic X650 Gold which doesn't run the fan at all at low power levels.
Okay now I'm flip-flopping between 3 cases...
1. SOLO
2. P183
3. Mini P180
SOLO: Will I be able to fit a better GPU later?
P183: Large, expensive. Maybe best long-term value, could likely re-use in next fresh build.
Mini P180: Accommodates larger GPUs, but limited to mATX.
I wish I weren't so flipping indecisive!

You can put a card like GTS260 in Solo, but then you have to do a little cutting. No need to remove the HDD cage tho. Browse the forums here - Solo is one of the most popular cases and you'll see people asking and answering questions on what VGAs you can have with it.
Anything shorter than a GTX260 will fit fine.
Here's some measurements I found elsewhere (can't say how exact these numbers are):
4850= 9.3 to 9.0 inches
4870= 9.5 inches
4890= 9.5 inches
4870x2 = 10.5 inches
4850x2 = 11.5 inches
8800 Series = 9.5 to 10.5 inches (depends on brand and model)
9800 Series = 9.5 to 10.5 inches (depends on brand and model)
9800GX2 = 10.5 inches
GTX 250 = 10.5 inches
GTX 260 = 10.5 inches
GTX 275 = 10.5 inches
GTX 285 = 10.5 inches
GTX 295 = 10.5 to 10.7 inches(depends on brand and single PCB or Double)
Note they say GTX260 is as long as GTS250 - I think that's either a mistake or maybe the GTX is a non-reference card. I had GTS250 in my P150 (same as Solo, only white) and it fits with room to spare.

Depends on what you call a decent GPU. In my books if it doesn't fit in the solo it's a design that you shouldn't consider buying.adamlevy wrote:Is there enough room in the SOLO for decent gpus? Looks like if I wanted to upgrade to a longer card down the road, I'd have to completely remove the hd cage?
Consider these lengths:
5670 6.61"
5750 7.15"
5770 8.75â€
Sonata III
Hi,
I have exactly the same set up and planning to buy the Sonata III.
Do you know if this case is fine for the same setup?
What CPU Cooler are you using?
Thanks
