I recall seeing that hard drive suspension discussed in the Silent Storage forum. The general consensus seemed to be that rubber bands are not a suitable material for this sort of hard drive suspension due to the risk of failure. Typical rubber bands will get hard and/or sticky and/or BRITTLE when subjected to moderate heat over time.

Have anyone tried blu tack? They seem to last and they can be removed by using another piece of blu tack. They have a little dampening effect and i have a slab of it in my drawer ;)

Works great on fans, but I haven't tried it on a drive yet. I bet it helps.

Have you tried shoelaces? I've used one lace to tie the 3.5 drive at six points (like a parcel) and another one to attach it to the 5.25 bay from the sides. No permanent knots required. It's a bit tricky with the weight of the cabling though
