Quick 3700AMB question

Post by Uberman1080 » Wed Aug 04, 2004 2:56 am

Ive got a 3700AMB and i know im going to cut off the rear grill. but im wondering whether or not i should bother chopping the front grill. Its a reasonably recent revision of the case and has the sonata style grill on the front. There wont be an intake fan only the exhaust (for now) and the front face which is restrictive as all hell hasnt been modded.

So should it stay or should it go? Oh and does chopping away restrictive grills have an adverse affect on EMI escaping the case?

i HIGHLY doubt that cutting that unrestrictive grille will do you any good. I cut the grilles off my BQE, and... well... my temps didn't change, and this was when I was still using air cooling with a Zalman 7000A-Cu.

I don't think there are any adverse affects, I cut mine off just for practice with the rear.

Do you have a reasonable way of measuring EMI? Neither do we. Don't worry about it.

If you are going to cut the grill off the back, cut the front grill out at the same time. You never know, maybe one day down the road you will want to place a fan there and you will be like "damn, why didn't I cut it out when I had a chance? Now I've got to disassemble the whole bloody thing to do it! ..."

I think if you're gonna cut off one grill you might as well cut the other. If you choose you only want to cut one of them, I'd cut the front one because it doesnt do anything, it doesnt protect fingers or anything because that's what the plastic bezel is for. So if you decide you only want to do one, leave the rear one on (as long as the rear one isn't too restrictive) and cut the front.
