Post by Slaugh » Wed Jun 01, 2005 8:45 pm

Lian-Li unveiled a new case at Computex Taipei: The PC-777. This one looks a bit weird but is also very interesting in its design...

Here are the specs so far:
  • 6 x 5.25" bays
  • 6 x 3.5" bays
  • 246mm (W) x 645mm (H) x 574mm (D)
  • ATX and BTX compatible
  • 2 x 120mm fans (front and rear)
  • Air duct + blower
  • Power and reset buttons on top of the case
  • 2 x USB 2.0, 1 x firewire, 1 x mic and audio front ports
  • Optional 12-in-1 flash card reader
Here are some photos. You can click on any of them for a close-up.

I don't like it but they deserve credit for thinking out of the box (hehe)...

That is by far the ugliest thing I've seen in my life. I dont think i want to run my pc inside a snail.

At last someone's dared to use there imagination! However, if they had done it right it might look more like this (without the cone obviously):

(hmmm, sexy  ).

I think I read this is just a concept case....they may never make it for production....

I think it's pretty

I like it. I like it a lot. Why does a PC have to be a rectangular prism? Rectangles have sharp corners, inducing turbulence and unsmoothing air flow. Smooth curves may produce better airflow. And this case gives lots of front space we want it for drives, and less back space, where we don't need it.

I would buy one. Partly to annoy the sort of people who've been reacting so strongly :-)

It looks pretty interesting, but the design wastes a lot of space. I guess it's perfect for the people that would buy those huge server cases anyways.

Well, at least it solves the "I keep piling things on top of my computer case" problem mentioned in one of the P180 threads.

I'm not sure if this one outdid the Ottoman / Toilet Seat PC.

I think it's an interesting design and quite like the back view actually.

The 5 1/4" bay structure looks grafted on from a standard production case however, and better integration with the overall design is needed.

I like it! The rounded shape will improve airflow and it is just plain pretty!

It would be oxymoronic to put my fast PC in the snail-like case

Only problem is that my SCSI doesn't fit in those stupid sideways HDD bays :x

i want the girl in the white top in the background :)

but on the subject of the case: with such a shape i thought that they were going off the structure of a blower fan, because using centrifugal force to move air around the pc and out the flat bit would be very good for airflow. however inside it seems to be a conventional pc that doesn't really take advantage of the snail shape.

but if the girl in white designed it then it's ok

Hello:

If I had to guess, I'd say that they intended it to look like a nautilus.

The case is ugly but the girl is ok, although they are even harder to silence than computers.
