Case Shelf

Post by bachamo » Sat Aug 26, 2006 3:57 am

I'm going to make a shelve to sit the computer on, then screw it on to the side of the desk

I thought I would add a backing piece that has a sound dampening material on it, that way any sound escaping out the back through the exhaust ports will be silenced.

Than I thought about putting a piece that runs along the side, meaning that the case what fully enclosed except the top and the fount.

There will be a hole in the back piece for cable's

Not sure if I should put a piece on the side though, I thought it might restrict to much air.

Here is one without the Side

What one do you think will work best.

I think the side will make it quiet, but hotter.

Its a Antec P180 Case so there are no fans on the side, only the front and back.

There will be around 90mm behind the case, and 25mm on each side.

EDIT: The drawing without the side also has no wall, which is the gray block that is missing.

I think your first option would work well, I don't think you'd get much sound dampening from the extra side piece personally, but you never know.

Been working on it today.

This is the finished Product.

Has made it a bit quieter, Will get some sound dampening material tomorrow and line the inside. That should drop it some more.

Case temp has not changed. So there is no restriction to the air flow.
