Antec P180 + Corsair HX520W/HX620W

Post by shadowfang » Thu Jan 04, 2007 2:51 am

Have anyone tested this to see if the ATX 20pin+4pin is long enough to reach the mobos upper parts?

If the cable isn't long enough. Can you buy extensions anywhere?

The cables on the Corsair are pretty long overall (you can even find references to the P180 in Corsair's FAQ pages). Post your particular mobo and one of us can confirm for sure. If your 24 pin connector is where my 8 pin connector is (eVGA 680i) you may have a problem.

I found that my 8 pin reached the top of the mobo ok going around and under components but for neatness elected to get an extender so I could take it behind the mobo (I hate messy cabling).

Try these folks for cables. Good, fast, cheap: http://store.pchcables.com/

i recently ordered this case and the corsair hx 620.

a fella over on the ocforums had installed the same case with an hx 520 and reported no issues with cable length. here is the link to his thread, there is a pic in there.

many people over think the wire lenght..as long as you dont have a cheapo psu or a mini atx psu then there is almost no problem.... is around 18inches from the bottom of the case to the top so to be safe id say make sure you have atleast 20inches of the main power cable ..... i have plenty left over for neat wireing.... enermax liberty 400w..... modular.... lovin it

I'll go for the Corsair HX520W (It has 19" 20pin+4pin cables) and the P180.

If the cable isn't enough I'm able to buy extension cables for both the 20pin and 4pin thanks to this tip:

or if you live in sweden

Thanks for all the help

The extension cable would allow you to avoid running it over the top of the video card.

That cable will be hard to unplug (due to Ninja) if you need to remove the video card.

Newegg has this inexpensive kit: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.a ... 6812162004

Or you can google for "4pin atx extension" or "8pin atx extension" depending on what your motherboard and PSU support.

That's only a 4 pin extender in the newegg kit.

that cable store was tip top.

they ship super fast, their prices are great and my 4 pin extension came in no time.

it is in there now, i am going to sleeve it even though u can barely see it.

definitely recommended/.

Hi everybody.
There is no problem with the ATX 20 + 4 pin (of Corsair HX PSU) in a P180 if your mobo has that connection on it's side.
I haven't seen any mobo that doesn't yet.

The problem is rather the P4 (4 pin 12V) cable to the top of the mobo.
That cable is tight or even somewhat short if you use a big CPU heatsink like the Scythe Ninja and a graphics card in the P180 case.

I also had a hard time to find these extension cables until I understood i should search for "P4 cable" ("P4 kabel" in swedish) at price comparison sites.
Then you should look for extension cable ("förlängningskabel" in swedish) in the product descriptions.

Here is a link to the swedish site "prisjakt" ("pricehunt"):
http://www.prisjakt.nu/expert.php?query ... =q=3600654

In a similar way you can search for "EPS12V cable" ("EPS12V kabel" in swedish). This is for the 8-pin variant that I believe is an older standard for the 12V connection? The Corsair HX PSUs has both P4 and EPS12V connnections cables (possibilities).

If you search for "ATX kabel" (in swedish) you will find all kind of current supply cables (4, 8, 20, 24 pin cables).

Mikael Persson sounds like a swedish name to me so I hope this will help you.

will this problem be amended in the P182? (ie. around the back)

ive seen people just run that cable under the mobo but in front of the mobo tray without having to make holes..

however, i am glad the p182 was not available last month - cause i went and bought a dremel to do it myself. this little tool is fun stuff :)
