Need quiet and good cooling case

Post by falcon26 » Sun Mar 11, 2007 4:29 pm

My coolermaster case is really nice to look at, but with very poor air flow and high outside temps its getting to be too hot and too loud with it. I want to get a new case. Something that is black, has good room for cable management and will fit a 8800 GTX. Any ideas on what case that might be?

Thanks

Antec supposed to be releasing some new versions of the P180 soon. The new P190 is going to be eATX compatible, and comes with 1200W of power.

The P182 also had some new enhancements for cable management and water cooling capabilities, check both out here.

I really like my Antec Solo. I did replace the Tri-Cool fan with a Yate Loon, and installed a SeaSonic S12-430.

Yea, get the Solo. If you have more money, look at the P180.

Solo won't fit a 8800 GTX. Excellent case, though.

Oh, Knowing this, I'd go for a P180.

Thanks for the pics! But he wants to fit a 8800GTX. But we know that the GTS fits now! How much longer is the GTX? PopCorn, since you have a GTS already, how much room can be spared? (And can't the HDD rack be removed?)

well thers a good 45mm ish left from the gts and the upper drive bay... im not sure how much longer the GTX is but aslong as you dont have more that 4 hdds in it u can take out the upper drive bay wich will give u about another 4 inches (sorry for not posting in mm) of space and u can put up to 4 hdds in the bottom hdd rack.... so its not really a matter of will it fit but more of a matter of do u need the top drive bay (which hold 2 harddrives)

sorry for not noticing he said GTX and not GTS

The GTX is 10.6" long (1"/25mm longer than the motherboard), it fits only if you remove the top HDD tray, you can leave the cage and a HDD will still fit in the lower tray, but the upper tray must me removed or modified. I have an 8800GTX in my P180...and it DOES FIT!

There are a LOT of case options....you can spend on an Antec-and it's a nice case, but it really only goes the basic steps towards silence-and you end up spending extra to get the right PSU/fan setup.

A 8800 vid card will be big + hot,and it implies there will be a hot overclocked CPU too. I'd look to a full tower with space to not just fit the card in-but to have some airflow options. This is probably going to be a high power game rig,so total silence won't be an option, but it can be relatively quiet.

The cases with the big side fans should be considered. Some of our hardcore silencers have pretty potent rigs running just the big fan at 400 rpm or less. Factor in a hot vid card and an overclocked CPU and it's more like 800 rpm, with an exhaust fan, maybe a fan on the CPU HS too.

The Aerocool Dominator and Coolermaster Gemini are well laid out to use for a big side fan-which would also cool the vid card. I'd look to have some flexibility in terms of other fans. maybe have a fairly quiet full time 120 exhaust, with another that kicks in on heavy-load use.

Aerocool,Enermax,Xclio, all have cases with big fans. You can also buy the Antec 200 mm from Antec, and it's a 3-speed. You can get a 220 mm too,I think Frosty Tech had them. I'd look at the I Star Nitro,or a big Chenming. if adding a jumbo fan.

For a tower type HS,like a Ninja or Infinity, Rear mount 120's are best, with maybe a floor mount intake (140 mm?) ducted

I thought the 8800GTX fits in a Solo if the drive cage is notched to allow for the overhang?

What made you discount the SLK3000B, ronrem?
