How to eliminate P182 top vibration?

Enclosures and acoustic damping to help quiet them.

How to eliminate P182 top vibration?

Post by Eagle156 » Sat Feb 23, 2008 7:53 am

I only have one hard drive, a WD2500KS that's screwed into the grommets, but the top panel vibrates and often turns into a hum, even though there is no fan mounted there! Pushing down on the top eliminates this humming, but I'm surprised because practically no other part of the case is vibrating and I don't really see how the vibration can go from the lower HD cage all the way to the top. Short of suspension, is there anything I can do to eliminate this?

Are You sure HDD is the cause of vibration. Maybe it's PSU as it was in my PC.

I have the same problem and its the two top Tri-cool fans causing the problem, because its gone when I unplug them. Ill replace them with YLs in a few hours and post back the results.

If I shut my hd down by going into standby the vibration is gone, so I'm pretty sure it's it.

Sorry I misunderstood your first post. You could try to enable AAM on your drive. Use the Hitachi Feature Tool program available on this free boot cd.

You can lay the drive on foam on the lower cage as a quick and easy solution. It will be double-decoupled with the foam and the silicon grommets.

I have one hard drive inside a smartdrive 2002c resting on the grommets of the lower cage. I tied the smartdrive down with sewing elastic to make sure it doesn't move much or touches the sides of the cage if I ever tilt the case too much. Now that I think of it I could have put a sheet of foam beneath the smartdrive for extra measure...
