P182 Top vent

Post by AlanM » Sat Jun 28, 2008 5:55 am

Hi all,

I'm about to build a P182 based pc. Its going to have an e8500 CPU with a copper ninja cooler that I hope to run with out a fan. Its not a gaming pc so hopefully I can run the Ninja fanless.

I was wondering if I should stick a fan on the top case vent and block the rear vent. Seeing as heat rises wouldnt that be a good way to draw the warm air up and out of the case?

What do you think?

Thanks
Alan

heat rising is such an insignificant factor in the face of any active fans that you should basically ignore it altogether.

Blocking the top is the preferred way to go because the top is a more direct path for sound to go from the case to your ears.

One slow 120mm fan is more than enough to cool an E8500 with a ninja, copper or not.

The top fan location is famous for making the case vibrate/ressonate alot more than the back fan location. I taped the top vent shut in my P182.

Foam Core

A great solution is to buy a sheet of foam core from your local hobby shop. Cut it to the shape of the top with a hobby knife. Finally you can spray paint it if you want it to blend in perfectly.

I also use foam core to make internal air ducting.
