Of Things Slim

Post by ChronoReverse » Thu Jul 17, 2008 12:40 pm

I'm looking at the Apex MW-100 case which supposedly takes a slim 5.25" DVD drive and a slim 3.5" hard drive.

I suppose for the hard drive I can just use a bracket on a 2.5" drive but where can I get the proper DVD drive? (I'm in Vancouver)

Anyplace that sells 1U server parts. Google slim DVD or 1U DVD.

Directron.com is one choice.

Thats just a notebook drive iirc. Slimline notebook drive, check newegg, ebay, centrix-intl always has some too. Probably need the adapter too if the case doesn't have one included (unless you could find a proper sata one I suppose).

It could really mean a slim 3.5" drive, as they have been made and available for some years now. Seagate currently sell all of their (to my knowlege) single platter 3.5" drives as 0.75" height models vs the standard 1" high.

Hi, Newegg has 48 items that are SATA notebook drives:

Also, as andyb stated, some 3.5 drives are shorter in height, so you would need to find out if your case can hold a 3.5 inch drive if you are interested in finding a slim version of those, or just putting in a 2.5 inch drive, possibly suspended or with an adaptor if the bay is 3.5"

Sorry. I thought we were talking about slim 5.25" drives. Disregard my comment.
