Enough with the Antec Sonata

Post by Dr.CrackEnHore » Tue Jun 24, 2003 10:29 am

Just so everyone knows if you are buying the Sonata because you want to quiet your system you are wasting your time.

There is nothing special about this case except they call it a quiet case.

Don't buy it unless you like the look and feel of the case, buying for quietness is just a waste.

Actually two things do set it apart from many other cases.

The case fans are on isolators, and the hard drive mounts are on rubber grommets.

Oh, and case fans are 120mm, but it's not universally agreed if 1x120mm is better than 1x80mm for noise vs. airflow.

Nothing that you cannot achieve if you get the components separately, and is willing to do a few simple mods on another case, of course.

I am a little bit happier, but some people will stand behind this case that isn't even pretty just because Antec threw some 30 cent grommets into the case.

"Pretty" is a matter of personal taste.

I agree that the stock config is not that quiet - but I think the case sharp looking and functional.

There's plenty of more expensive, ugly cases out there!

One the other hand, the main reason some people seem to buy / like this case is because they think it is pretty.

It would be much more appealing (in my eyes) without the "Antec" holes on the sides and if the right side panel could be opened...

That's two of my three beefs with this case. The other is that the front sub-bezel needs to be modded to increase the airflow.
