Antec p183 case rev 2, they have changed the design
hi all just thought i would psot this as i dont know if people know about this
there seems to be a new revision of the antec p183 as i must have the latest revision, I read alot of reviews on this case and watched some videos on youtube and one of the complaints was that there was no cut out for the motherboard to be able to replace the heatsink and if you needed to replace the heatsink you had to take all the motherboard out to replace it, When i got my antec p183 case last week i took the side panel off and now there is a cut out for you to be able to replace heatsinks without taking the motherboard out.
nice one antec they always listen i hope this helps people as they might like this option and have not thought of getting this case becasue of this.
also the side of the box has a new SSD compatable sticker on the side so i dont know if this is the sign to tell you which is the newer version of the case
hope this helps

Hi all on my way home now will post some pics later, no there is no support for USB 3 on the front case but even if there was the motherboards only seem to have USB 3 on the rear not on the internal of the motherboards well on the asus anyway.
Would Silentpcreview add my pics to there main review at all as this might be helpfully for other people who read the reviews.

i take it the SSD mount is on the bottom of the upper HDD tray? can't tell from the picture.
my only question is, what about downsizing the P18x? it's huge. that's the biggest caveat (aside from price) for me. my cooler master Elite 330 is just a tiny bit larger (and sometimes the same size as) many mATX cases.
although I will say, if i do take apart my rig for future upgrades, i'll probably but the hole for the CPU socket myself...much easier than buying a new case for me, as i love this one...works like a charm, and does what i need it to. upgrading to a larger graphics card might not be a possibility, but i'm not a gamer.

The "SSD Compatible" is referring to the drive rails used in the upper drive cage. Here's a photo comparison with the Antec Solo/P150/Sonata Designer cage on the left, and the P183 (rev2?) cage on the right. You can see holes for you to reallocate the silicone grommets to install SSD's.
Edit: Whoops, forgot to include image.

Quite true, but unfortunately, there are four big gaping holes in the drive rails, so unless you're up to some drilling, you don't have much of a choice in the matter.spworley wrote:What's the point of using silicon vibration isolation grommets to mount an SSD? I suppose the answer is that it's useful for 2.5 inch laptop drives, not SSDs.
Yeah, I liked the old clean look more as well.pqyrz wrote:Was the front door design changed? I preferred the clean look of the P180 over the P183.
Thank you.

As far as I know the only changes are just the SSD mount and the cut out of the motherboard tray. This case however, does NOT have USB 3.0. So to answer your question, the front door design has not changed to the P183.
Regards,
Antec
I'm currently building a system with the "SSD compatible" Antec and you have to move the silicone grommets from the 3.5" holes to the 2.5" holes and then put the screws through to fix the SSD in place (same way as installing the drives in the lower cage).KayDat wrote: Quite true, but unfortunately, there are four big gaping holes in the drive rails, so unless you're up to some drilling, you don't have much of a choice in the matter.
Re: Antec p183 case rev 2, they have changed the design
I think I've got rev 3, because I allso got the SSD sticker on the side of te box. They allso put a little plastic bag with 4 screws inside that says "for use with 2,5" HDD" (or simmilair text). Pitty that there are only 4 screws, now I have to devide them between my two SSD's.
