Silent cell 5770 in Antec solo heat danger?
Hi
I'm planing to install a gigabyte silent cell 5770 graphics card into an Antec solo case.
However, I'm concerned that the heat from the top of the silent cell radiator will melt some of the sound dampening foam lining the Antec solo case
How close is the top part of the radiator to the case side panel?
Many thanks

I recently installed a 6770 into my solo, should be same as the 5770 but there could be some slight differences in dimension
the fin arrays on the side sits around 2mm closer to the side panel comparing to the side of the hdd cage, hope this helps

I don't think you should be concerned. The melting point of plastic is at least 120*C. If your heatsink gets that hot, the side panel will be the least of your problems

Unless Antec has changed it drastically, there is no foam in a Solo, just sheets of plastic that vibration-damp the panels and provide a bit more soundproofing.jedi55 wrote:...melt some of the sound dampening foam lining the Antec solo case

Hi,
So it's plastic not foam, how thick is it?
I don't have the case or the graphics card at the moment, I'm building from scratch.
It seems, as long as the radiator does not touch the plastic, I'm safe. How big is the gap between the two?
Many thanks

about 1~1.5cm
Re: Silent cell 5770 in Antec solo heat danger?
Do you mean 1~1.5mm?
Re: Silent cell 5770 in Antec solo heat danger?
I actually mean centimeters, that is from judging without using any measuring tools though.SHODAN wrote:Do you mean 1~1.5mm?
how about I just attach a picture? since I have no faith in my own gestimating skills

I am sorry, I thought you were answering a different question:Flanker wrote:I actually mean centimeters, that is from judging without using any measuring tools though.
I thought 1cm+ of material would be quite a change from my own case! I do remember seeing a picture of a Solo with a grey "egg crate" foam on the inside, but I assumed that was custom.Hi,

The plastic damping sheet on the side panel of the Solo might be a couple millimeters thick. There is NO FOAM -- in any Solo case I have seen.
