Sonata PSU mounting question

Post by CoolColJ » Sun Sep 21, 2003 11:33 pm

Does the Sonata's PSU come with a silicon sheet/pad between it and the case body?

It might help with the rather loud stock Antec fan but if you swap in an L1A, I couldn't imagine it helping. I basically can't hear the P/S fan on my two Sonatas. Change the 120mm fan back to 5v and your case starts approaching silence.

Tom isn't it a bit risky using an L1A in the PSU? Not much airflow from that fan :)

using a L1A in the PSU as well.

The air gets warm, but my computer has'nt crashed or anything, so I'll just leave it as it is.

Actually, I think because of convection, there seems to be more air movement from the PSU then the 120mm stock fan at 5V ('measured' using my hand).

That's an excellent question for which I don't have an answer.

I'm with LB. I'm going to stick with it until it blows. :D

This may be flawed logic but...

If it were running too hot, wouldn't the L1A ramp up to max speed? Can't I assume that the P/S isn't maxing out on temperature since the fan is throttled back significantly by the fan control circuit in the P/S. :?:

I thought it was more related to load :)

but I can get a M series (medium speed) 80mm panaflo easily enough, and it's better flow wise, and according to MikeC is almost as quiet undervolted.
