Compucase 6919

Post by DAS » Mon Oct 27, 2003 8:05 pm

I'm looking at the compucase 6919 (http://store.yahoo.com/directron/69191.html) and the venerable 3700BQE. While lots of folks seem to love the BQE, I've not read much on the 6916. Does anyone have any experience with the 6919?? I;m looking for QUIET first and cooling second. Anyone have any thoughts on the 6919 in this arena??

Thanks in advance

There is a fair amount of discussion of the Compucase 6A-6919 and the 6921 and the other variants, including the Antec SLK-3700AMB and the CoolCases D8000. They all need to have their fan grills cut out for any chance at silence (though CoolCases does this for you), but after that they are quite nice cases. Rumour has it that the 3700AMB will gain the BQE hex grills...

I´d say go with the Antec-case. I have had the 6A21-case for about two months not and sorry to say, I am not that very impressed with the quality of these designs. Maybe I got a lemon, but the case seems to wear out rather fast. When one has opened and rebuilt the computer a few times the case feels worn, the hatches on the door stops working and the PCI-card nut-holes looses their grip. Also, my case tends to vibrate when I have an 7200RPM HD in the case. It is obviously just the exactly wrong frequency, for adding just a little wheight to the case-sides stops it (all it took was 400-800g)

I have the LX-6A19, and after appropriate modding, I've found it to be a terrific value. It's very quiet and solid.

DAS,
According to what you said, you don't want the 6919. It does not have dual 120mm's like the 6A19 or 6A21.

The European Compucase and USA web sites are both wrong. The English Compucasecorp and UK web sites are correct. The 6919 only has one 120mm. Here's a pic. Notice the front fan design does not accomodate a 120mm.

If you want dual, check out this list of cases that can support two 120mm fans.

The earlier model of CI-6919 did have two 80mm fan mounts in the front and one in the rear but the current one has one 120mm fan mount both in front and back. I saw such a case with my own eyes in a local store, so I can speak from experience. At least, that's the way it's in Finland :)

Wow, that's pretty cool. A double post but 16 minutes apart from each other!
