I have to agree and point out one of Jason's major arguments for not touching lower points: "single system folders". I currently have just one system that folds 24/7 and it fluctuates a little below 100. If I'm committing my one and only machine for this, getting a little color is a good morale boost.

I took the time last night to check out the individual stats pages for some folders in that 75-100 region and notice that many of them don't show much change in output since the new points system was put into place. I am at a loss to explain this, but there it is. I suppose the explanation is these users are already doing Gromacs, so haven't, and won't, see much change.

At this point I am leaving it up to Jason. I have had my say, and I do not believe any more "input" from me would be welcome.

As a teal folder with 1 24/7 system I hink my increase in points will be roughly about 20 percent. I guess it's just more variable whether single system folders get good units or not. I saw one good tinker but the other than that I havn't seen any units that have given me a large boost in points. I expect my increase will be roughly the same as the small increase in points for regular gromacs units.

Folders with many systems probably still get mostly 'ordinary' units but some of their machines pick up the good onesand it averages out to a larger increase. Of course if a singl system folder does pick up a few good units it would boost their production very significantly.

Anyway hopefully over time the points per work unit will more closely correspond to the ammount of real computational time used.

David,

As I've watched my PPW average slowly tick up, I hope that Jason gets around to playing with the colors sooner rather than later -- there is no way I should be RED!

Although, his cutoff for the old EOC stats was 5000ppw for red, which is just about what I was doing before the EOC stats upgrade...

Well it has been changed.

gray/black/teal/blue/green/brown/'dirty maroon'/red
0 / 1+ / 125+ / 250+ / 500+ / 900+ / 1.4k+ / 2k+

So now us smaller folders with have to deal with black. :(

Cheers, I think they are perfect now. 8)

Dasman, your wish has been granted. You are no longer red, but a brown... :P

My only quibble with the cutoffs is MAYBE with the lowest one for individuals. Although I initially proposed 125, after seeing how many single cpu folders have seemingly not benefitted from the new points system, I started thinking that 100 would be good. Quite a few steady folders are in the 100-125 point range:

Rusty075 - 101
NeilBlanchard - 115
DanOnKeys - 118
Fastman - 104
Vergozen - 115
Pete_Amer - 120

and that's just in the top 100.

However, I predict that over the next couple of days, at least half of these folks will reach a 125 average. Come on guys, just a...few...more...points. :D

Edit: as of late Friday night, Vergozen and Pete_Amer are teal.

I would add to that, that maybe from my own 'selfish~' point of view, upon reflection maybe it's not the choice of cut off so much as the choice of 'colour' or lack (black) there of.

For my mind/eye, black is too similar to grey and I suspect I would think differently if I had a 'colour' rather than a lack of.

I have to go to work now... but you can rest assured that I will stomp and pout my way to my car and stay that way... till loud music and the joy of driving my car through twisty country roads on this gloriously sunny and warm day makes me realise how lucky I am.

Have a nice day everyone.

Pete V Amer. (Actually now I think of it, V could stand for Voodoo (Ask the oldies like haysdb & Stevo  ) or my middle name  .... spooky)

P.S. What am I grumbling about... I'm green in my sig  ATM

Well, there they are. I think the higher points brackets are now good and challenging. Perhaps teal could be lower but that's the system that Jason decided on so I guess that's what we live with.

For me I'll likely oscilate between black and teal depending on what units I get etc. Anyway It won't really be affecting the way I fold whether I'm black or teal.

I would gladly trade you colors if I could have your "twisty country roads".

Without wishing to rub it in, would you like the ones most suited for cars or motorcycles?

Or maybe the inbetweenies?

And if you could select a preference for the ones that are better for wet or dry 'playing' 8)

Oh.. and quiet or really quiet?

Scenery or not fussed?

Burger King or MacDonalds stops?

Blonde or brunette.... sorry, got carried away

The past five days have been tough. The work just hasn't been worth as much as it was the first week after the points changed.

We had four red folders, now only two. EOC had one, now none.

Three days ago...

Code: Select all

       SPCR EOC OSX
Red 4 1 2
Maroon 2 4 0
Brown 5 3 5
Green 12 11 6
Now...

Code: Select all

       SPCR EOC OSX
Red 2 0 2
Maroon 3 4 0
Brown 4 5 4
Green 12 8 6

Also doesn't help to have power problems wreaking havoc with your production. :(
