Australia's first 'iPod' marks 60th birthday

Post by robokopp » Tue Nov 24, 2009 5:21 pm

From the news story:

The world's oldest intact computer is turning 60 in Victoria, Australia.

The CSIRAC - Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research organisation Automatic Computer - is housed in the State's museum and has today been granted heritage listing as part of its birthday celebrations.

It is the first computer ever to be made in Australia; the fourth computer ever to be made in the world; and the only first generation computer that remains intact.

You bunch of "Roofu*kers" best keep damned good care of that thing, it must be a national treasure. I wish we had an original, they are slowly trying to rebuild originals, why the hell they ever scrapped them I dont know - whoever made that descision needs to be kicked square in the nuts.

Not forgetting that in the UK during WWII, people like Turing & colleagues achieved much that paved the way for our monster. See this tribute site:-

http://www.turing.org.uk/turing/scrapbook/ww2.html

Sadly, our Australian government in 1956 created a White Paper which effectively lead to the slow and strangled death over the next 30+ years of commercialising local developments, favouring instead to buy "the latest & greatest" from overseas importers.

Never mind, imagine the potential dialog if today, Turing had a cameo appearance on "The Big Bang Theory" and explained his logical & mathematical theories to Dr. Sheldon Cooper PH.D.

The mind boggles...

And at long last.

The Apology.

But we cannot live in the past.

We can however look back in wonder, learn from its failures, live by through its mistakes, and thrive by is fortune.

----

And yet here, we see more people that are so afraid of human reality, that denying it is their only course of action - complain, and have it banned. It has barely even seen the light of day, give homosexuality in public a chance for a decade or so, lets really see if its destroys society.

It's just like the football score on TV (not American Rugby), you know its coming, you dont want to see, but your peeking anyway, get over it and live your live, and let other live theirs.
