Hi!
I'm thinking about upgrading my soundcard to a Creative X-fi (haven't decided on which one) and I wonder if I would be able to use the front audio connectors with it.
I have an older Soundblaster live which is not compatible and that really blows.
Does anyone know?

You would need to make a "custom" connector yourself; the stock one from P180 / SOLO will not work with Xfi / Audigy2 / Audigy LS (have all of them and I can confirm this)

I have an X-fi in my Solo case, and it's a shame you can't connect the card to the front ports.
Is it difficult to make a custom connector? I'm not very experienced. Does someone have any instructions, perhaps?
Or, even better, is there somewhere one can order the custom connector? (I 'm aware you can buy a front panel from Creative, but that I will never do)

I always thought one way or another Creative made their products incompatible with front audio ports/connectors on cases. As to not take away from sales of their own front audio port solutions (I believe they have a couple bay devices).

Do some googling and you will find some interesting reads on home-brew connectors. In fact, I think someone sells them now as they got the port on the cards deciphered....maybe for Audigy2.
Be prepared to spend a couple of hours muttering at your screen though.

The newer X-Fi models have the required connector. I'm listening to music on my XtremeGamer card through headphones plugged in the Solo front panel as I type.
Pics for proof:

The X-Fi XtremeGamer has the standard front panel connections, and also happens to be the cheapest X-Fi card with EAX 5.0 support and all the other standard X-Fi features (but not the "XRAM" that the high-end cards have)
Stay away from the XtremeAudio, it has none of the real X-Fi features...

Just checked my X-Fi Xtreme Music, and that one does not have standard front panel connectors. Too bad...

So it's X-fi gamer that's the shizzle. Too bad, I'd would have wanted the Xtrememusic for the nice goldeplating and the gameport
