I was prepared to not use AA at all when I loaded up left 4 dead.
I am running things at 1920x1200 and I have a 3870 ati card. I noticed benchmarking places using 3.6ghz oc'd quadcores and getting low-mid 20 fps' with my vid card and 4x aa 4x af.
well, steam recommended 4/4 aa/af and 1920, almost all set to high except one effect detail. I never bother playing with anything past 2x AA as I never have noticed a difference in a shooting game. no aa can suck at times for realism. AF is more important for clarity and distance.
uh, well i dont know the frames but, my 3.0ghz e8400, 4 gigs 1066 ram, 3870 is running L4D smooth as freakin glass with aa /af on and everything cranked.
it should be stuttering on mass zombie swarms. It isnt.
I do not know who is getting paid what for benching, but its obvious they are completely wrong.
Just a tip for those who fear benchmark numbers on the net and current gear. What a freakin lie!
I have to figure out how to show frame rate numbers. hm.
I know in lost coast with all maxed out I get 121 fps average. I dont know if thats good, but both are source engines, even though L4D is much more complex a game visually.
am I missing something?

Download FRAPS. It's a small program that will display FPS in top right corner of screen.~El~Jefe~ wrote: I have to figure out how to show frame rate numbers. hm.

In all Source based games type "cl_showfps 1" into the console to display a fps counter.~El~Jefe~ wrote:I have to figure out how to show frame rate numbers. hm.
