Silent Mini Fridge?

Post by cloneman » Tue Dec 08, 2009 8:43 pm

Topic explains it all.

I want a fridge in my room for cold drinks, and maybe sandwich stuff, gotta be damn near 0db though, if not, gotta have a nice sound character.

I'm sure SOMEONE here has had this situation come up :D

It's healthy to walk all the loooong way to the kitchen every once in a while ;)

I have some beers stashed on the balcony. Now that it's just a couple degrees above freezing, it's perfect.

I get distracted easily. On the trip to the kitchen to get a drink, I might end up doing something else for 45 minutes.

Then I get back to work and I forgot to get a drink

gotta be damn near 0db"

I use minis as they take a lot less power, but none are zero db. You must try to listen to them in a store. A propane unit is an inexpensive option for an economical running and silent solution, but they are expensive to purchase. However, if you are handy with a few tools you can get one from a wrecked recreational vehicle. You must know what you are doing.

RV/camping propane fueled fridge.
no compressor, and very few even have fans.

Compared to cooling with a compressor, absorption cooling is very inefficient.

I don't know how much the fuel costs, but it sounds wasteful to just burn propane in order to cool a fridge (but I've never used a propane fueled fridge).
The fridges I've seen use somewhere between 0.5 (mini fridge) and 1.5 gallons a week.
