They make noise, too.

ATI 8500 AIW + PII Heatsink

Post by windmiller » Thu Jun 24, 2004 7:58 am

I had attached a loud Mightymite fan from 1coolpc.com awhile ago to OC the card. Was able to get 325/325!! I no longer OC.

Anyway I am going to take off MightyMite and use a PII heatsink which are pretty large. Would this cool the 8500?

Thanks!

Well...I've got a 7500 and a 9200 with small passive heatsinks. No probs. My AIW 8500 has a very small fan/heatsink which I ran for a while with the fan dis-connected ( just routed some airflow over it). No probs.

Your idea would probably work ok.....just how did you remove the stock fan anyway? Mine is firmly attached (glue?).

I put it in the freezer for about 15 minutes and then used the screwdriver/credit card trick. Popped right off.

bluefront,

So you were able to unplug the Heatsink/fan on your 8500 and it ran ok? I would rather do that, less trouble. Maybe even underclock it for temps.

How did you monitor the temps to make sure it didnt kill your card?

Thanks!
