zm-hp80c + 120mm fan

Post by jmatucd » Sat Feb 19, 2005 1:18 am

A question: My dying 80mm zalman slim fan attached to a zm-hp80c (on a geforce fx 5900xt) needs replacement. I have 120mm orange yate loon fans. I wish to somehow mount the said 120mm fan onto the side of the heatsink. Does anyone have experience with this - perhaps some ideas as how to do it? Zip ties (or will they melt)? The original system of screws will not fit a 120mm (width and length wise).

There is plenty of clearance in the case. However, I'm itnerested in ideas as how to mount the bloody 120 on there so the 80mm clicking insanity stops ;)

Loosen the struts between the heatsink sides a bit, so you can slide them along the edges of the heatsinks. Hold the new fan in the same way the slim one was mounted. Turn the fan 45 degrees and wedge the corners between the struts and the heatsink (slide the struts over the corners). Now tighten the screws on the struts.

Sorry, I don't have a camera, so I can't take pics...

I used zip ties to mount a panaflo on my zm80a.

don't worry. no melting iwll occur. and my vid card is a hot FX5800.

Ah yes, thanks for the help.

I ended up mounting it at a 45 degree angle between the protruding brass nobs. After some adjustments, the knobs were pushing into the fan so it would stay still. Its lovely @ 5v (yate loon orange 120mm stock ~1300 rpm). Did I mention its orange?

Thanks
