i'd strongly consider the zalman vf700 over the nv silencer. i don't own either myself, however the general opinion i've formed based on reading posts on the topic has put the zalman above the silencer in terms of cooling per unit noise.

perhaps someone else can chime in that has used both?

thanks for the suggestion. :)

one of the main reasons i was going for the NV silencer was the price (i would hardmod it to 5v molex for silence)... but after doing some research i found the vf700alcu for $23 ($31 shipped) here

temps look pretty good with this one as well... i'm surprised there is not a review posted on the main SPCR site...

hmmmm... more reading to do...

no, at '0.3 stone' it pretty quiet (my SP1612C is louder than it and masks all other noise :), nidec btw.) I'm happy with it, the temperatures are usually really low and you can't hear it on... even with the hard disk off, the noise / humming is really minimal

btw, is it supposed to be sucking air out of the case or into the case? BEcause right now it is blowing air down toward the bottom of the case and that doesn't quite seem right

It's supposed to suck in case air and blow that out of the case, not what you describe. I don't think your situation can be achieved by hooking up the power connector for the fan the wrong way around, but you might want to check anyway :?

Yea, it is clearly blowing downward (into the case) and there is no air comming out the back or in that direction... I connected it in the same position as the original cooler (that is, the power connector is in the only possible configuration)

I guess Ill try to fanmate it and see if that persists... hmm

Does anyone else's NV silncer work in this fashion?
