Passive VGA card that can use dvi to vga converter?
Hey all, I i have an ASUS V9520-X/TD/128 Geforce FX5200 128MB Video card:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814121186
and if you look at the picture close up, the dvi connector is what you call a dvi-d (i think) and from what i understand it can't be converted to vga, which i want so i can run dual vga monitors .
I have an adapter that looks like this:
http://www.shop4tech.com/?go=view_item&id=2840&r=183
I have also seen some adapters that aren't missing any pins, so now im confused which video card to buy now.
I suppose i can choose any video card as long as it has a common dvi connector. am i right? please help. By the way, i will be using it with an Asus a8v deluxe motherboard

You're right -- the DVI on your card is DVI-D and you need to have DVI-I to get an analog signal out of your video card. A general run down of DVI can be found here.
As for choice in video cards (especially low end ones), it's a fair toss-up and it depends on what you're willing to spend and whether or not you have an ATI/NVidia preference. Biggest knock against that card would probably be the 64-bit memory interface, but I haven't been following that market segment all that closely. Looking at recent reviews / buying guides for budget systems may point you in the right direction.

Do you think that this Asus Geforce FX 5200 would have any compatibility issues with my P3 866 256mb ram, Abit VT6X4 (via apollo pro 133a), winxp98 machine? i will have to get another video card but i might as well put this one to use.

there are some twinview Gforce MX440 cards around .If they had enough power for what you want maybe one of those would do.
they have two 15 pin vga connectors .
I have one but it is a low profile card and works well with 2 monitors
but it not a very good gaming card .
the low profile ones have the second conector on a cable and it takes a second slot in the back of the case.
The full size ones should only take up one slot

Do you think that there will be compatibility issues with that?rclayton17 wrote:Well i do have a super old ati all in wonder pci 16mb card. But I don't think that i really want to mess with that.
an Asus 128mb geforce fx5200 (agp)
and an ATI 16mb (16mb!!!) all in wonder pci card
running together, side by side.
Nvidia and ATI together... It's gonna be a war inside my case!!! j/k

Ok i probably won't use the 16mb all in wonder pci card.
I'm deciding between these 2 cards:
Gigabyte:

eVGA:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814130173
I'm leaning towards the eVGA card because the picture actually shows the dvi to vga adapter, and the heatsink seems to be better, but im not sure though. What do you guys think?
