120mm fan on the stock 4870 cooler?

They make noise, too.

120mm fan on the stock 4870 cooler?

Post by fyleow » Sat Mar 21, 2009 12:12 pm

I'm thinking about getting the 4870. Is it possible to just hook up a 120mm Scythe fan using zip ties on this and disable the stock fan? I can't imagine the stock fan being able to push much more air than a 120mm even at low voltages.

It is possible, but I advice you before doing anything try that card and see how fan control works. My Asus HD 4670 has no fan control but its easy to zip tie 92mm Nexus or other silent fan to it without losing in temp size. With Stock 80mm hair dryer @ full speed core was 37C's. With 120mm Nexus @ full tilt it was 34 degree's C.

It is possible but do check the fan controller first.
