AC Accelero S2 + 92 or 120 fan enough for GTS 250?
I just picked up a cheap Geforce GTS 250 1GB (Gainward Deep Green Editiion). It is slightly underclocked but the stock fan is still pretty noisy.
I would like to keep the card short in case I use it in a smaller PC at some point so I'm wondering whether an Arctic Cooling Accelero S2 with a zip-tied 92mm or 120mm fan would do the trick.
IIRC I have seen people using this setup on the similar 8800 models so I am presuming it should be ok on the GTS 250?
Thought I would check here just in case!

GTS 250 isn't exactly a short card. Some quick Googling suggests they're about 9" long, and the Accelero S1 is about 8.5" long, so it shouldn't add much/any length to your card. Honestly I see no reason to get the S2 instead of the S1.
That said, S2 is a pretty capable heatsink. Should be able to handle a GTS 250 with any fan blowing on it. Passive cooling is likely a no-go, though.

The Deep Green is much shorter AFAIK, it may look like this:

I am interested to buy one, but I don't know how much less power it uses compared to a non-green one.
Also I don't know where the GPU socket is located, if it's moved towards the back, then the S1 might not fit without maiming.
Passive cooling with an S2 seems impossible to me without massive case airflow. Maybe the OP could post a couple of pictures of his card?

Judging by the fact that many gts250s ship with simple extruded aluminium heatsinks, I`m sure the s2 + a fan could handle it. What I don`t know is how fast you will need to run the fan at load and unfortunately it will be quite hard to find anyone who has tested the s2 with such a card. The biggest problem of the s2 is ... the s1.
There are other, more compact coolers that could do the job by Zalman, Xigmatec, Skythe etc (Zalman vnf100 would be my favorite). None is as good value as the s2 but on the other hand, most of these have been tested with cards similar to the gts250, so you could get a better idea of what to expect.
