Hi Guys
As my XFX Radeon HD5850 is now the noisiest component in my setup, the quest for silence continues...
But I'm wondering if the GELID Icy Vision Dual Fan Cooler will fit in a non-modified Solo case?
Thanks in advance
Morten

Re: GELID Icy Vision fit in Antec Solo case?
The Gelid is only 8.5" long and there's 11" between the back panel and the HDD cage in the Solo, so it should be no problem.

Yes. I have one.
(might want to upgrade those 2GB of RAM though )

Perfect - THANKS!
-I have 2x2GB RAM and a Win 7 x64 DVD just waiting to be installed
BTW. is the included VRM heatsink sufficient, or should I also get a Thermalright 5850 VRM R4 ? -looks like it would be perfect in the line of the air stream from the intake fan...

It could be, depending on use. I didn't found it sufficient though. With the Gelid VRM heatsink, the VRMs temperature measured 70º C after 10/15 minutes of gaming (at stock speeds). I didn't test for longer. Using Furmark or Crysis benchmark/stress test, they reached 120º C in a matter of seconds and kept increasing until I stopped testing at 135º C (with no sign of the temperature stabilising).Morten74 wrote:BTW. is the included VRM heatsink sufficient, or should I also get a Thermalright 5850 VRM R4 ? -looks like it would be perfect in the line of the air stream from the intake fan...
I run all my system's fans at low speed (5/6V), including the fans on the Gelid (~1200 RPM).
Here are the VRM temperatures using the VRM-R4:
(with a 850MHz / 1200MHz overclock)
They never reached 60º C. I'd say that's money well spent (20 €)

I am currently looking into using a gelid icy vision rev2 for my 6870, just wondering if the vrm sinks coming with the icy will be enough as it seems it wasnt for your 5850.
