Panaflo system fan or Silencer?

They make noise, too.

Panaflo system fan or Silencer?

Post by Likif » Thu Nov 18, 2004 5:15 am

I'm pondering a new VGA card, specifically the 6600GT AGP version, when it's available.

What I'm thinking is that I have two choices, either use a Silencer on a Fanmate connected to the motherboard, or use a Zalman passive on the thing and add a 5 or 7 volt Panaflo L1A as a system fan (currently my 120mm Fortron PSU is the only exhaust fan in my system, and it works like a charm).

so, which would be better?

the silencer might cool less effectively vs the zalman with ur panaflow, how ever it should be quite equal im not sure about that.

the plus for the silencer is that the hot air gets pushed out the case, whereas the zalman will keep the hot heat inside ur case, and add to ur cpu, psu temps, and possibly if the hot air is not recycled properly back to ur vga card, hdd.

i would go with the silencer, gpus run perfectly at temps around 70-80, ur silencer with fanmate would cool around that area (on load). also zalman's cost more along with the fan u have to purchase.

Thanks for your reply. I already have the Panaflo, so the price for either solution would be much the same here in Denmark. In fact, the Zalman would be cheaper, if I make do with a ZM80C, and not a ZM80D.

What I'm chiefly concerned with is the noise quality of the Silencer. I have a pretty quiet machine already, and I wouldn't want any clicking...with my 80mm fan, I can be sure that won't be a problem.

yea with the silencer u'll get a clicky fan, if u dun mind running it at lower rpms its fine, but otherwise, try out the zalman and see how it works out! :D
