Would putting a duct (or pipe) over the fan make it quieter?

They make noise, too.

Although there are a number of video cards that have passive cooling, the ones that I actually want do not have any type of passive cooling, and since I don't want to void the warranty, I don't want to mod the video card.

Has anyone every tried putting a duct or pipe over the fan of a card to see if it would reduce the noice?

For example, consider the following video card:

It seems like the fan is already enclosedon at least two of the sides. I was thinking that putting a duct (or a piece of pvc pipe) over the outlet area might reduce the noise. What do you think? Has this been tried before?

I doubt it'll make much difference. Most video card heatsinks are mounted to be removable. Why not just put an Arctic cooling on it. If you have warranty issues just plug back the old HS. I know lying sucks but noone makes decent oem coolers for vid cards.
