How do you attach a fanmate to the NV5 on a 6800GT?

They make noise, too.

:?:
I feel stupid. I just installed the NV5 and I couldn't figure out how to connect my FanMate2 up. The FanMate has 3 prongs. The NV5 fan plug only has 2 and the holes look too small to plug into any of the 3 prongs. Nobody said anything about this so I assumed it would be obvious. Need help...the noise is better but still driving me crazy. :(

I don't know if this would work or not, but I'm inclined to think that it will.

I just plugged the fanmate into the chipset fan header, and installed a passive chipset cooler. On the downside, you lose any temperature based fan control from the graphics card, but on the upside, you won't have to worry about PWM fan control making the fan click.

You can't plug the fanmate directly into the graphics card without modification but you can plug the NV5 into the fanmate. Plug this then into the mobo and you can adjust as needed. You could also just buy an extension and control via coftware like speedfan which is much nicer :)

I think this is the right way to go. Thanks!

Just connected my fanmate to my motherboard and the fan's running at 40% most of the time. It goes to 100% after a couple of hours gaming but is stable as hell :) Also, you can read temps in speedfan which makes the process easier.

What kind of temps are people getting with their NV5s either modded or not?

My idle temp is 62 degrees, peaking at about 75 under full load.

I'm idling at about 52-53 and after several rounds of CS: Source, it's up around 65. :) I expect this to go up though after I get my fanmate hooked up and turn down the fan.

I was idling around 53°C before fanmating, around 63°C afterwards. I haven't got round to testing load temps yet, since I figure I've got enough headroom not to worry about it.

I installed a fanmate on my NV 5. I had to not only cut a little of the NV5's plastic shroud above the 2 pin connector on the graphics card, I also had to modify the 3-pin connector on the fan mate...but it works! Just make sure you connect the right 2 pins of the fanmate into the 2-pin connector on board. I guess plugging the fanmate into another header on the mobo would also work, or a fan controller.

Either way, good luck, it's possible with a little modification!
