Albatron PCI FX5700LEIP for my new Pundit-R

Post by forgieboy » Wed Jun 01, 2005 11:24 am

Hi all,
I've recently bought a Pundit-R with a Celeron D 2.4, 1GB RAM, 2.5" Hitachi 5400RPM 80GB HD. It runs nice and quiet at the moment using speedfan for the CPU fan, and a homemade 'diode dropper' to lower the voltage to the PSU fan.

The integrated ATI graphics, however, leave a lot to be desired. DVD playback on my 21" CRT at 1600x1200 looks, well, bad. Very obvious decompression artefacts. I'm therefore going to add in a PCI video card to improve the video playback, and the gaming performance. I'm tossing up between either an Albatron FX5700LEIP or a 5200. My question is this: does anyone have any experience with the Albatron? How noisy is it? Does it use a lot of power? If it's bad in either of these departments, I'll just get a passive 5200, problem solved. The extra gaming performance would be great though.

Thanks,
Nick
